I shall lurk no more...

Postby NutmegJoe » Mon Nov 06, 2006 3:12 pm

I have rightfully been called out as a lurker and I am here to rid myself of that stigma.

I first heard about teardrops in late August and then met up with some wonderful Colorado teardroppers (Pam Wright and George Thornton) in Sept. Since then I have read everything I can get my hands on. I was planning on saving my pennies and buying a tear from a manufacturer because I didn't think I could build one, even tho I do consider myself quite handy...give me some directions and I can usually put it together. And from that last statement, you can probably gather that I am not a man since they never want to ask for directions! George quickly assured me that I could build one...he even had some ideas for me. So...I went to the Colorado Last Gasp at the end of Sept, saw quite a few beautiful tears, and I am now on my way to building my own. I just got back from visiting George and the plan is coming together. We are going to weld the frame in the next few weeks and I'm heading to Home Depot for plywood and supplies next weekend.

I got Steve Frederick's build manual in the mail last week and after I read it 5 - 6 more times, I'm going to try and use some of his techniques to build a Benroy profile, 5' x 9' woody. It will be christened the TearScape One.

I'm hoping to have it completed in the Spring so I can attend the Dam Gathering in CA next May. I may be a little optimistic in my abilities, but I've got George and Pam!

I know I will owe you pictures, and believe me, I cannot wait to get them posted. I will be so proud, you won't be able to stop me!

I'll probably have electrical questions (the only part I'm still a little unsure about)...so, expect to hear more from me.

Thanks so much for this forum!

I am definitely not an "old timer" here, but I have been lurking long enough to know that you have come to the right place for help and inspiration. These guys and gals are great. It's good to see another future teardrop builder here in the springs. I have a couple more projects to finish up, then I am going to start on mine. I can't wait - summer is almost here...

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement.

I thought I would post again in order to get the hang of it...right, Mike?

I will definitely be getting some pictures as soon as building begins. I can't wait.

More Colorado Teardrops. Glad to hear it. If you consider yourself at all handy you will not have any problem. With the good people on the forum and here in Colorado you should have no problems.

Welcome Shelly,
More estrogen is always welcome. 8) Being handy and following directions is helpful but not required. Can't wait to see you pictures and as far as electrical, we have stacks of stuff in a Sticky. There are also a bunch of qualified electricial people here. 8) So just ask.

Directions? What directions? Mine was made on the fly. The folks at work know that if we are looking at the manuals, we are stuck. It's a guy thing.

Congrats on your decision to build, you have lots of help only a click away.

Hi Shelly!

I'm over in the neighboring state of Utah. You'll have a blast building your teardrop. Be sure to do plenty of planning up front, it'll save you a lot of time and headaches later. There is an amazing wealth of knowledge on this forum, so be sure to ask questions as needed. Oh yeah, and we need pictures, lots of pictures. Welcome to the addiction!
