I have rightfully been called out as a lurker and I am here to rid myself of that stigma.
I first heard about teardrops in late August and then met up with some wonderful Colorado teardroppers (Pam Wright and George Thornton) in Sept. Since then I have read everything I can get my hands on. I was planning on saving my pennies and buying a tear from a manufacturer because I didn't think I could build one, even tho I do consider myself quite handy...give me some directions and I can usually put it together. And from that last statement, you can probably gather that I am not a man since they never want to ask for directions! George quickly assured me that I could build one...he even had some ideas for me. So...I went to the Colorado Last Gasp at the end of Sept, saw quite a few beautiful tears, and I am now on my way to building my own. I just got back from visiting George and the plan is coming together. We are going to weld the frame in the next few weeks and I'm heading to Home Depot for plywood and supplies next weekend.
I got Steve Frederick's build manual in the mail last week and after I read it 5 - 6 more times, I'm going to try and use some of his techniques to build a Benroy profile, 5' x 9' woody. It will be christened the TearScape One.
I'm hoping to have it completed in the Spring so I can attend the Dam Gathering in CA next May. I may be a little optimistic in my abilities, but I've got George and Pam!
I know I will owe you pictures, and believe me, I cannot wait to get them posted. I will be so proud, you won't be able to stop me!
I'll probably have electrical questions (the only part I'm still a little unsure about)...so, expect to hear more from me.
Thanks so much for this forum!
