I think foreigners can be a little more intelligent than that.. 8) But it gets
interesting when you start mixing words such as
It could be the Beer, Bear or Bare that can get (Some) of us foreigners..or is it the Bear Drinking A Cold Beer Bare at the Bar
Arent you lucky your not a foreigner..We start studying English in 2nd grade..

Sorry, but "leverage" has been a verb for a long time, as well as a noun. Just check your dictionary.

That's the beauty of the English language, in that it adapts in SENSIBLE ways to meet our new requirements and better express what it is we want to say.

A word may not be in the dictionary today, urban OR rural (because you sure can't blame any of this on a hip-hop culture). But if the word makes sense and it's widely used, even the folks at WEBSTER have to admit that it's now correct English.

Thank HEAVENS I don't live in France, where the language is officially "protected" from change...as if French was so wonderful in the first place. What an arrogant, uppity attitude:

That unless you use the words I deem proper, YOU'RE not proper.

Ira that what you say about the French is very true.. They travel around the world as well in Europe only speaking French - even though they can speak English at a reasonable level and then some.. However they carry their heads so proud... that they expect everyone else obviously to speak it automatically in return...

The Quebecois aren't much better. I was attending a reenactment of the Battle of Quebec and was walking down the street speaking to my (now ex-) wife in English. Now both of us were dressed in 18th C. period clothing so there was no doubt as to where we were from and why we were there - doing a show that brought thousands of tourists to that city. Anyway, we were accosted by a little old lady who said, "Don't you think it's rude to come to another country and not speak the language?"

I don't often respond to rudeness with rudeness (oh dear, whatever would Miss Manners say?) but sometimes it's called for. I was taken aback only for a moment before replying, "Don't you think it's rather arrogant to expect your guests to learn a language for one lousy weekend? Lady, I got people LIVING in my country that don't speak the language - I don't want to HEAR your problem!"

They hide behind the curtain of "diversity". I don't consider myself prejudiced but in my car is a prominently displayed sticker that says "SPEAK ENGLISH OR GET THE LOVE OUT!!" Of course, you may substitute another word for "love".

I'm sorry, but that is just the way I feel......

Ya know I think it is a matter of where you are. I lived in the country of Norway for almost 2 years and not once (in my presence) did a single person get upset about my inability to pick up enough language to have a conversation. They in fact used my lameness as a good reason to practice thier English. I was included in the neighborhood teas and every conversation was in English while I was helped along. When we lived in a small town the local store hired a school girl to come in and they let me know when she would be there. :applause: She was happy to practice.

Good manners to a guest were running rampant. :)

Now how do Americans do that to the huge number of foreigners we have join us. ;) I couldn't learn one language and no way can I keep up with the rest.

Just "very little Spanish" though. That's the part that Babelfish didn't translate.

Pompous, pompous, POMPOUS!!!

Believe me--neither you nor I are any better than 90% of the people walking this earth.

Why do you think you are?

I'm just trying to figure out where you're coming from.
Here we go again!
