Doug, I found this inside photo of a San Francisco cable car roof. It shows how they laminated the roof header under the windows and then tied the cross stringers into it. I don't know if this is what you are looking for.

thanks Mike...that's what I'm thinking of...all I need to do is figure out how to skin the insides in birch and make a contrasting piece of wood to detail up the joint where the vertical side of the top meets the interior roof...as well as all the other interior details for the top...Doug
