Greetings from Alaska

Hi!! Just found this place through a search. I have a homemade wooden teardrop that I bought a few years ago……it was built in ’94. It’s a pretty nice little rig, with a home made “add a room”. Doesn’t have a kitchen in the back though.

It was built around ’94 and is in need of re-finishing. I am about finished stripping it down. I am also thinking of adding a kitchen in the back. It isn’t wired for electric. Thought maybe I would hang around here and get some ideas of what/how to do some mods to it.

Welcome aboard. One thing you'll find around here are ideas aplenty.

Nice rig, ya got enough spares on that thing?

Hi Wheeldog... or is it spare tire dog?

Welcome to the forum. The profile of your teardrop reminds me of MJ's Alligator tear...

Very cool looking side tent.

You got any inside photos of that?

I don't have any pics of the inside.....guess I could take some. It's full of the parts I took off. There is just a set of cabinets across the back, a Queen size mattress fits in there.....thats about it.

The teardrop was made to go with a hot rod......thats why the 2 tires. One for the trailer.....one for the hot rod. There isn't enough room on the hot rod to carry a spare......and it would spoil the look. Thats why it might be tough to put a kitchen in it. :?

Naaa, search around a little bit for a spare tire table. Your spare will swing out of the way and turn into a table.
Not to tough if your industrious.

Here is some more info…….this is what it looks like hooked up to the hot rod…..

This is where I am at in fixing it up and a shot of the inside……I still need to strip the side with the door…………

I would guess to add a kitchen I would have to add on the back as the mattress goes all the way to the back now. It may not be worth the hassle?

I would like to wire it up for a TV and lights. I have one of those Mr Heater’s that is supposed to be safe inside….maybe plumb it for propane…..maybe a propane light too?? I am still in the thinking stage and am looking for ideas.

My long range goals would be to throw my motorcycle in the back of my pick-up, hook the teardrop up and go play someplace warm (Arizona) for a while. I want to be able to dry camp as much as possible.

Welcome Wheeldog. Real pretty toy ya got there. Did you get the rod also? MHO is you will give up your inside storage to get even a small galley. I would decide what I needed most and go with it.

Enjoy the site and thanks for the pictures.

Only from a floatplane or a boat. Gotta say...not a whole lot of demand around here for road camping...

Welcome, Dog.

Maybe someone here can design you some kind of chuck wagon box, like a max of 2-feet deep but going your full width, and it doesn't have to be that tall at all. Then you can just attach it to the rear as a separate unit.

You can fit a lot of appliances/cookware in a unit that size.
Here we go again!

WD, welcome to the board...nice stuff, ya got there...looking forward to see this project come together...it l
ooks like with a mod to your spare tire set up that a galley should be doable...the chuck box idea is a pretty good one as well, especially if you could find an old(large) steamer trunk.......
