Ideas for NON TOXIC Construction

Postby PaulC » Sun Nov 26, 2006 5:32 am

As we all know a lot of the glues and plywood we use are not all that good for those that are chemically sensitive.
What requirements should we adhere too if we need to build a 'Non Toxic" TD?
Cheers
Paul

Rik was very big on building non-toxic... If you go to his website, he'll tell you all about it...

Paul, first, you have to grow the trees organically, then you have to get a beaver to cut it down for you..then you drag it behind a water buffalo till it's flat on two side..you have to stop the ride to flip it..then you boil some fish bladders till they turn to glue, and glue some boards together with the glue and when it's dry, you shape it with some termites and build the Tear using more of that fish glue..

or, you just read the labels.. :?

Paul, I built my TTT as "green" as possible because wife is chemically sensitive, and it makes sense not to breath all that S... ! I used stick construction with dry wall screws and Tightbond glue. the floor is tongue-in-groove pine finished with linseed oil. I skinned directly over the skeleton with aluminum and sealied all the seams with the lowest VOC calk I could find. the insulatin is that bubble wrap stuff, no fiberglass fibers or formaldehye. the only plywood I used was the 1/8" birch and I sealed the sheets on both sides with shellac, and let them air dry a few days before I installed them. so far no problem and virtually on smell inside. its really not difficult to do at all ...........Bob
