Okay, Remember this for my previous post


Well, Mary K did not check what the weather was going to be last night and woke to find that it was humid and foggy and dew every where.

And yes, I found that the front 8" of the side wall above had turned white from moisture.

IS it ruined???Can I fix it??? Please someone tell this dingleberry how. I know I don't deserve it cause I let this happen to begin with, but I promise I won't let it happen again.

I had a fan blowing across it at the other end, and this end was very close the the edge of the carport.

IT was so beautiful last night when I went to bed... OH the humanity of it all.....

Id say get it dried up asap ... maybe if needed a light sanding and coat it with a Marine Varnish...

I dont think its ruined all the way Im sure you caught it in time....Im glad I did the sides with it on mine before the bad weather started and mines sitting in the porta garage....

if you remember I went out to the garage and inspected my countertop for warpage and all... I found that small slide out table piece warped...
Well I must have had a case of CRS... I totally forgot to have applied the clear to it....as for the main Countertop and narrower shelf piece all was ok...because of several coats...

So I brought that short piece in the house and it straightened out..thank god... And now its coated with the wax and varnish... looks good and straight again...

So I had a bad feeling when I found it warped but saved it... last minute I think..So your not the only one Mary K even though its sad...

Well, see, I had already varnished it with 5 coats of spar urethane. Now one end is milky. I guess cause it was too humid when I put the last coat on and got damp when it was drying.

I guess I'll just have to sand off what is milky and hope it comes off.

I do know what set backs are.... 2 steps back and 3 plus steps forward..
I swear in Finnish and say.. there that is better and continue on....

I would even take it into the house and see if it dries and then sand it ...

Oh dear,

All is no lost. just some varnish. Because I have the fear of going through the veneer on ply I would sand very carefully by hand to the bottom layer. The guys who do this for a living should chime in before you get home and maybe there is a remover that will work and make it easier.

Just a Teardrop learning bump. Take pictures cause you are going to want to remember so you can share with someone else.

Dancing is good for frustration too.

I'm thinking that sanding will remove the milky film. Just be sure to only remove the varnish 'till the film is gone! If you get into the wood, you'll have a hard time, if not impossible time, getting an even color.
Maybe the film is in the top coat only?? Did the previous coats dry before additional coats?
Try this out in the area that will be behind the fenders..just in case!!

Hi MK!

The white milky haze on your topcoat is what is called in the biz as "blush" or "bloom".

If it doesn't go away on its own (while in a warm, dry area for a couple of days) they do sell blush or bloom eliminators.

Basically they re-amalgamate the finish enough to allow the underlying moisture to escape!

Steve & Coop, Okay, I'll take both of your advice together, let it dry for a few days and try a little sanding on a test spot.

The 4 coat was fine, and dry, then I lightly sanded and added a 5th about 10:30 last night. So I hope that I wont have to sand to far down.

4 HOURS. That's what the instruction said. "Apply next coat after a minimum of 4 hours." I should have know better though. I got in a hurry and wanted it done so I could move on.

I think if the blush remains after a suitable cure time, you'll be able to sand/wet sand the film out!! Especially since you have a cured coat underneath.

First I would never make anyone wear that silly dress, and your hair wouldn't look good in braids. You were stricken by Teardrop fever and have been up and down for months but it gets worse so not to worry. Tonight you will dream of making a second Teardrop without the heart break this one caused.

Mad Jack is a pussycat and Mike S looks nothing like the Tin Man. Ira is too short to be the Scarecrow but Andrew might be the Wizard. You my dear do seem to resemble Dorothy some.

The sand paper is your friend. I am sure it can be fixed. There are very few people who tackle this the first time and not make mistakes. It's part of the learning curve we all speak of so fondly.

BTW---Everytime I get ready to varnish it rains or the fog roles in. Rain at 6am so hard it poured in the garage door. Had to jump outt the bed to get my plywood off the floor.
