That's the beauty of the skin, that it hides all of those screw and nail heads and eliminates all of that difficult work to try and conceal it otherwise.

And like I said above, it just seems that the thin skin materials available will take a stain so much nicer that the cheap ply most of us use.

Not to mention that you're adding a layer of protection.

Why is it too late?

Think long and hard about this, because you'll only get one chance.

You'll skin AFTER the sides and spars are up anyway, so I don't think it's too late.

If you're not 100% happy with the way those sides look, make plans to fix it now--don't live with it. You'll regret it later.

 :shhh: 8)
Well there is a way to skin it. If you are not happy with the sides when you finish you can always reverse it and use it for the inside. ;) Put 1/8th anything you like on the outside. Or you can remove the varnish and still skin it.

I think she means swapping out the right and left walls, which works if only one surface is bad. But any varnish on there doesn't realy have to be removed to add a skin.

Ya haven't had a beer yet have you. Ok I'll jump. Why would it matter if the other side is bad. The inside will be good and the skin will hide the bad. Besides she bought good Birch. :R

Alright, no fighting!! :fb

I wouldn't have thought you could skin over varnish, that's why I said it was to late. 'Cause the thought of stripping it off s a nightmare.

I think I can fix it. Really! If not, well then I'll skin it.

:R Not fighting hun. Just razzing Ira. (teasing) Honestly, we posted so close together and said almost the same thing I thought I'd rib him a little.

I,m not an expert on glueing over varnish and personally wouldn't do it, but we all know I am seriously retentive about glue and screws.

I believe in you. You will fix it. ;)

Miriam, that's where your post is totally confusing me:

You can't reverse the walls.

You can only switch out the right wall and left wall.

Coop, Finn,

Okay, I try the hair dryer first :? :? :? :?

Ira, One could put the right side wall on the left side outside in and the left wall on the right side inside out. Does that help?????

I'm NOT the one losing it here.

Here's what Miriam first said:

If you are not happy with the sides when you finish you can always reverse it and use it for the inside.

And I reponded:

I think she means swapping out the right and left walls, which works if only one surface is bad.

And she responded:

Why would it matter if the other side is bad. The inside will be good and the skin will hide the bad.

This confused the crap out of me on ALL levels, because if both sides are bad, WHY SWAP OUT THE WALLS IN THE FIRST PLACE!? She has to skin the outsides, and frame and skin the insides. If only ONE side of the walls is bad, she can SWAP OUT the walls, exchange one for the other, and have clean OUTSIDES to just varnish again. And then frame and, insulate and skin the interiors.

And Mary said:

Ira, One could put the right side wall on the left side outside in and the left wall on the right side inside out. Does that help?????

So after reading the progression of what went down below, WHO'S NUTS HERE!? NOT ME!!!!

;) My new responseIra, you were talking about skining and I was agreeing. She could reverse the sides, leaving the varnished side inside and skining the new outside. That way she wouldn't have to glue the varnish side, which a bunch of us tell folks not to do. Irelivant because she bought Birch and it should be good both sides.

Truth is when you responded to my "reverse" word you were right. You are not loosing it you just used different words. Its a Venus/Mars thing.
