Galley Cabinet Building

Went out and purchased some prefinished 1 x2,s and misc.. items for the Galley framing ....

The 1 x 2,s are real nicely pre sanded plus I,ll be using some simple joint dowels (Birch)

Classic Finn,

I do not think that the birch will go with your counter top so to appease your wife you will have to send me the countertop :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Actually I think it will look great and can't wait to see the results, you might think about a dye for the birch to make the grain really stand out

I was looking at a special wax to bring out the grain on that Birch... It looks a lot nicer than on that photo though...

Home alone tomorrow since wife be working, son off to the daycare...
so I can really boogie on the galley..... :D :D

The Curly will be applied with a special wax only... it really brings that grain out afterward...as did on my countertop... The natural is sort of a
trademark of the wood here as is in Scandinavia... ;)

I,ll surely take photos of it once weve done a door with it and the wood decor... I can hardly wait.. :)

Here is another Culture that us Finns have here , Making knives and many of these have the Curly Birch Handles...

Luv the knives...my Dad (bless his soul)...was always making knives...and searching for the perfect steel. We had knives made from industrial band saws blades, car leaf springs, different steels that were heated and tempered in oil, water, sawdust and everything imaginable. When he wasn't making one, he was sharpening one. Pap never had the knack, but that never stopped him from trying.

BTW...sorry about the hijack...that curly looks great!!!! And as far as dowels are concerned...with a choice of dowels or biscuits...I always use dowels. You would be really, really happy with a self centering jig for frame work....Juneaudave

JuneauDave I love making knives.. Its a whole lot of enjoyment.. even the wife has made a few....

I have a jig for centering the dowels as well, its still in the package...
trying out the pocket screw system as well later today...

Hopefully I,ll be able to accomplish a few things again while Home Alone.. :lol:

Majority of furniture here has them wood dowels now a days...real strong ....

:thumbsup: no problem I showed the knives for a purpose so feel free to
speak about that knife making too...

Wife has a touch for designing , She,s a designer herself by profession so I have to watch myself ...being a rookie at this... :lol: :lol:

Thats a nice set there. Ours are the same but I haven't seen a set like that. Probably have to get into a woodworking mag. to order one.

Your knives are beautiful. I have a fondness for wood with a lot of detail and definition to it.

I like the curly stuff, looks real nice. Ought to make some very nice doors.
Those are some really sharp looking knives, the Curly Birch handle is a particularly nice touch.
