Rocketear mock-up/progression

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Postby madjack » Fri Dec 01, 2006 11:07 am

...as a famous sailor(or a hooker in Cincinnati) once said..."well blow me down" (or some such)...that is very fantasy looking Doug.
I like the idea of one of your "rocket lights" as a third brake light and a round over on the edges as well...you and Daisy Dawg are coming up with a truly unique looking little camper

doug hodder wrote:I've got the sides done, including interior skins, at least ready to pile on more coats of epoxy on the exterior...it looks blotchy...that's because I used a fairing additive to the epoxy which eliminates a lot of penetration of the resin and will smooth out the exterior. Since the sides are going to be painted this time and not a woody, I wanted to seal them off and build up the smoothness on them, in a hurry...Sides and top are going to be auto paint on this trailer, so the discoloration isn't an issue. I also added several wood accents to the side, which are just held on right now in 2x sticky tape, rough fit up, not final, they will be also epoxied on to the sides and "faired" into the body...the Trolley top will have 4 portholes in each side, (might be difficult to see), in automotive glass, plus I haven't worked out the details yet, but each side of the raised portion will have an accent stripe in a 3D effect like the lower stripes on the body ...what is shown is the template...the real thing should happen this weekend...it might look stupid...but I don't care...this is a hoot to build!!!!! I'm just trying to do something outside the box!!!! .Doug

Doesn't look stupid. Looks FANTASTIC!!!
Don't want to scare you, but I think you may go into history with this one. This is the difference between just great craftsmanship, and art.

I like it Doug!

Quite special indeed

I believe the proper nomenclature is 'Flash Gordonitian." Yes, it's got the dork factor pumped pretty high - I totally like it!

Doug,

It looks great, you're off to a good start. Can't wait to see some more of the bling.

thanks Bruce...right now I'm waiting for glue on the birch interior sides on the trolley top to cure...got one side done with the portholes and the lip routed in for the glass, getting ready to rout out the other...I'm thinking about a louvered "vent' type look on the aft end of the top, painted out in a contrasting color...the fantastic fan will be hidden behind the vent and below the top...it'll have a cut out in the roof at that point for the vent to open up...so from the side, can't see the vent at all, I also got all the wood accents routed, sanded and ready to apply...Doug

Arrgghhh, I'm jealous. I've been building a shed instead of a trailer:

I hope to be building a trailer soon. :worship:

That looks like my shed (16X10). I put another pair of doors on the gable end though. I didn't want to have to move my riding mower everytime I needed to get something out.

It took me about 6 months to build. Just like everything else, I was about 85% finished when I got sick of it and took a 4 month break from it. All I had left to do were the doors, soffits, trim, and paint when I took my break.

Does anyone have some good plans for one of those sheds? Something large enough to get a tear into. Doug, sorry for the hijack ;)
I guess I'll have to make it over there to check out the rocketear.

 That's about where I'm at. Still needs paint and trim but I'm sick of it so it might be awhile before I get to it.
