Electric Brakes! Which end is up?

I've got a #3500 Flexride on the new frame, with electric brakes. I figured out that there is a left and right brake assembly. Which way is up? Coil on the bottom or top?
It's painted, ready for the hubs..I'm confused!

On my Dexter electric brakes the magnet is on the bottom. I did a searchand found that is typical. :) Danny

The brake assemblies are marked left/right. I had no clue which was the top.

The magnet should be on the bottom and pull towards the rear. The magnet arm will be in front.

Quite true... BUT...

IF you have correct brake on each side, position is not absolute... IT will function no matter where magnet is located...

Not quite sure I understand that. If you have them on the right side they should look as I described, that pretty much makes that the position they should be in. :thinking:

They will work in any position, but, they will work their best in their proper position. :thumbsup:

I'm yet to see the magnets mounted anyother way but at the bottom, and in any case the hand brake lever needs to be at the top to prevent it being ripped off and/or jammed on !

Niall,

Don't be showing your hand (parking) brakes to these Merkans, they'll be getting all jealous - in theory, they can be bought in the US, but no-one's ever had them, so far as I've seen.

Hey Andrew,

Cary at Camp-Inn offers the hand brake as an option for his trailers..so there :lol: :lol:

I am actually thinking of adding that to my trailer, that way I do not have to carry chalks when I go some where.

Rick is right, we do offer them. Mainly because of people in other countries wanting teardops but requiring the hand brake. Like Andrew said though this may get us US folks worked up a bit because I can confirm that hand brake components are somewhat tricky to source in the US. They charge ALOT more for the hub with the lever here than without. Then there is the cabling and park lever, not cheap either. So, maybe we shouldn't have seen that photo.

Oh, yes. The magnet goes down on the hub. Make sure the wire comes out behind the trailing arm not under it. I see them get assembled on the wrong side arm from time to time and that is a quick way to check.

:o oooops, sorry - i had no clue that they are an "optional" extra in the USA........we just take the hand brake for granted. Now it makes sence why i see so many photo's with chocked wheels.................i never could figure that out !
