Here are a few shots of our Hunter HU-3 with some design concepts for modification that some Hunter owners (or prospective buyers) may be interested it to maximize use of the galley area.

The Original Galley...

Concept for built in dishes and pots and pans pull out drawer, plus upper cupboards with pull down doors (right door has inside heat resistant surface for placing hot pots on it when door is open). Stereo speakers are mounted at thes of the upper cupboard...
(only cooler needs to be stored in tow vehicle)

Concept for built in Cooler and side cutlery drawers...

We leaning towards the first concept have mulling things over for the past 6 months

I like your first concept photo with the added pots and pans drawer and cutlery drawer. It's super easy to just throw the cooler in the car, and I'd rather have the cooler in the car than a bunch of pots and pans rattling around in the car personally. The idea for added drawers up above where the shelf is now is a good idea too. I assume these drawers will be the pull down type? if so, consider making "cup holders" in the pull down part of the drawer, they come in very handy and its nice to get your cups out of the way, and you'll know who's is whose if they each have their own place. Just a thought. I definitely endorse that first concept idea (middle photo).

I've updated my concept photos above to show the storage concept with drawers open and how it will look in actual use.

Putting together all that we use, this concept will allow us to store all our current cooking and misc gear in the galley with room to spare!

A far cry from our current kitchen cutter, and inefficient use of space...

I have all your inconveniences with my Shadow, Dave. I installed the utensil drawer, but that just makes me want to redo the whole galley. I agree that replacing the shelf with cabinets and/or drawers is a positive step.

I will probably do something like you want to do in your first idea. I also want to replace the shelves in the cabin with cabinets and drawers. My problem is, no power in the garage! Got to fix that first.

Hi Mike,

Yeh I'm not sure why Hunter designed the galley that way. I am sure there are some logical answers though. I guess it keeps it generic to serve different peoples needs. Never could find a cooler that fit the right area very well, or efficiently. We are going to make the mods without changing any of the existing galley structure. Although we will most likely cut down the 4" back board in top back of galley so its easier to access items in the new cupboards.

Otherwise we are pretty happy about our Hunter.

I've been out with our tear twice with 6 nights so far this season. Good start on a summer full of camping.
