David from Corvallis Oregon - New homebuilt trailer owner

I found this on craigslist a few weeks ago for $1000. The rear hatch is too heavy for one person and it needs a coat of paint in the galley but otherwise it is a pretty sweet package. It is not as pretty as 80% of the trailers I've see here though but you can't beat the price I paid either. It is 5' wide in the inside and has insulated walls. The exterior is plywood with fiberglass and a coat of rubbery snow seal. It has a nifty reach through from the cabin to the galley and the coolers are on rollers for easy access. The tile work on the counters is a nice touch. The frame is nice and heavy with levelers on all four corners.

Things I want to do to it -

Paint galley and cabin shelves
Redesign galley hatch
Add 12v plugs in cabin
Make battery charge from truck


I am assuming you can see my photo album..

What do you think? Any suggestions?

I have to disagree with Paul about the wife cooking and you taking pictures - it should wife cooking, wife taking pictures and you relaxing with a nice cold one - don't let the wife read this or we are all in trouble - ooops too late

I did not see a shot of your whole galley, I I was thinking you might want to redesign it or put doors on the cabinets, especially where the blue jug is. I would hate to see that slide out and do some damage to you or family members

The reason I started looking at trailers is for our honeymoon next June/July. We will be spending a lot of time in this trailer touring the San Juan Islands off Washington. Once we are married I can slack a little and let her take over the photos. For now I still have to take the photos AND drink the beer.

Good to see another Heeler. We've been through a lot together and he is about worn out (12 years old). Personally I think I'd have left him with some friends rather than lift him in and out of the trailer all weekend but my better half wouldn't let me. Do you let your dog in your trailer?

Welcome Dave,
That is a nice camper. I gonna agree with some doors on the galley.Neat way to do the hatch too. It might leak if not covered. I couldn't tell. What you might do is remake the hatch to swing over and provide a shade.

The trailer is 10' long and the cabin in 5' X 7'.

Cabinet doors are a good idea. For the rear hatch I am thinking about side hinging 2 doors that lock at 90 degrees with a snap-on tarp roof with a fold-down door flap that would make a space that can also be used for cloths changing. I can also put more storage in the door. I will probably have to add a "hoop" in the tarp roof to give it more rigidity.

Anyway, she looks really nice, and that galley looks VERY practical--tons of space to prep and cook!.
