Finland’s claim to be one of Europe’s last wildernesses is well-founded. The country, covered with broad lakes and enormous forests, is bigger than the UK but contains only a twelfth of its population, so getting away from the crowds is much easier here than in many other European countries. The forests, dominated by birch, pine and spruce, are also home to some exotic wildlife.

About 1,000 brown bears inhabit Finland, for example, but although they have grown bolder in recent years, they are essentially shy of humans and you are unlikely to encounter them in the forest. Moose are also very common: you should take the warning signs on Finnish roads very seriously, since these large animals can appear suddenly on the road and are slow to budge. In the far north, the lynx is still a native, but you’ll be very lucky to spot one in the wild. The reindeer, on the other hand, is extremely common in Lapland in the north, and you would be unlucky not to spot these creatures while driving above the Arctic Circle. These animals are semi-domesticated but are allowed to roam to find food. Reindeer herding remains an important source of livelihood for the Lapp population, and the round-ups in autumn are a dramatic spectacle.

In the Helsinki area – even in the central areas - impressively large hares are common, as well as pheasants and red squirrels. A rare species of flying squirrel also inhabits pockets of forest close to the capital. Finland’s birdlife includes the capercaillie and the magnificent whooper swan, which is the national bird. Completing the wildlife picture are Finland’s plentiful fish; the coastlines, lakes and rivers provide happy hunting for fishermen, with salmon, rainbow trout, Arctic char, whitefish, perch and pike-perch some of the more common species.

Below is: The capercaillie is an impressive sight, especially during its elaborate spring courtship displays. Although its numbers have fallen due to the widespread disturbance of forest habitats, there are still more than 100,000 pairs of capercaillie in Finland today.

Gosh Heikki:

Your land is so beautiful.

My childhood visions of your country comes flooding back over me now.
Your hearty rural country with friendly people seem to be reflected in your
always uPbeat attitude here on the forum.

Will your web site point to places to see and points of interest in your country
as well as trekking to the outback in a camping environment Image

Steve Thank You...Majority of the Finns are friendly yes...such is the character of Scandinavia in general. Even though they can be very shy in the beginning but I know that they always treat their guests very well..and with professionalism in mind.

I guess Ive been told the same thing over the years as to what you are saying ....  I do enjoy people, no matter where they are from. I enjoy working with tourism...and an International Atmosphere.

We will provide as much info as possible and even some joint work with
small family cottage and camp owners..also whatever that we come across... I,ll most likely need a pro website builder to fulfill this dream of ours... at 1st..

And also some way to accumulate a fleet of teardrops... to provide the tours... to make this even more unique...So thats what we are after..
And all of this started with the ideas and opinions from this Forum..And the friendly folks that are here...

And Im saying this from the Inner Soul and Heart - Believe me.

Ive been writing my ideas in a diary sort of speak and I presented my thoughts to local new business advisors here.. And they said that the idea is very interesting and also unique as the statistics reports in the travel industry here state that the want or desire for Nature Tours are going to grow..

Many people dont want to stay in hotels or motels but in the Wilderness or Forests... in a tent... and many do that but in a Teardop??? Well you folks know the rest of the story ...why a teardrop?????? and so on..

So what and where is the Adventure??? Tours in Tears of Scenic Finland...

Image

PS We cant forget our lil endangered friend here in Lake Saimaa known as Saimaannorppa (Phoca hispida saimensis) or the Ringed Seal. As only a few hundred remain and we are battling to save this hilarious lil creature...this lil creature is way smaller than the close relative known as the Baltic Seal..

Read about this here

I see your list of vocations has been varied over the years.

May I suggest on the last line a small change that flows for me better said this way:

Come see for yourself or explore our website for a taste of the magical North few will ever experience.

Steve... yep, you can suggest. But, in this case, I'll stick with what my instincts say will work,
Sometimes the stuff I write isn't always grammatically correct; But it almost always moved some toasters... or whatever.

Disney didn't call it "The Magical Kingdom" did he?
And, the "Springfield Historical District" may be more grammatically correct.
But, the "Springfield Historic District" has worked well for over 30 years.
Sometimes I just go with language the common man will respond to... correct or not.

Mighty pretty, but I'm sorry, you couldn't GIVE me a stainless steel knife. (OK, I have a Swiss Army Knife, but I have that for the saw, tweezers and toothpick - the blade will cut cheese and butter on a hot day, but that's about it.) Please don't take offense, Heikki, I'm not trashing your stuff - I know these type of knives are very popular and I'm sure they'll sell well for you. But in my experience though stainless stays nice an shiny, it simply won't hold an edge - for that you need carbon steel. My best knife was hand-forged by Dennis Miles, most of the others made by my good friend, Bruce Roberts of Herndon, VA.

Got any trout or salmon flies?

Holy Smokes... I sure can tell you have Brick... Thank You for your dosage of the English.. :applause: :applause:

Now for me to translate that into Swedish and German and....Dutch..also to the Flamish language at a later date.. Finland is a favorite place for the Dutch to camp..

The destination of NordKapp or North Cape is the northernmost point of interest to many from Europe..and beyond. With a population of not more than 4000.

Just a beautiful place to travel with or without a teardrop...

Correction: Joseph dont take me wrong the knives are not stainless steel... what I meant was the materials used in General for Many of the products are wood, reindeer horn, and stainless and for the knives are hand forged steel of the finest quality however I myself maybe made it sound as though the knives are made out of stainless... That is my error as the knives are indeed made of forged steel... I do know the difference..but the wording didnt come out the way it was supposed to..

Apologies, that is my English typo which is not the case .. Good that you caught my writing...

Yes we do have trout and Salmon flies as well...as thats the main fishing up in the North...
