Hey guy's -- can you sew??

Learned to sew a long time ago. I've got an old Singer that I've used to reupholster a couch and some other furniture, have made clothes, curtains and any number of other things.
I also cook, often better than the wife. And always when camping.
I'm not allowed to do laundry.

Not too difficult - it's just a job.

Special just for your teardrop and give it a theme.

Ah, but that's completely different - giving something a 'theme' is like cultural betrayal for guys. Can't do that. Wouldn't be right......

I can do MY laundry but since her clothes are involved, I don't. I have no idea what is dry cleaned, what gets washed but not dried, what doesn't get bleached, etc. Just to save any future "discussions" I leave the laundry up to her.

My laundry is easy whites, and not whites. Sometimes if I get more than 2 loads, I'll split the not white into light and dark. I don't make it anymore complicated than that.

Something they call sorting???? Not sure what that is.... I always tried to keep it simple.

When I was a teen my mom taught me how to sew nylon wallets. It was fun. Now that I am older I sew kites together that are measured in square feet. I love sewing the BIG kites.

PS - I can sew, crochet, wash clothes and dishes and bake a cake.

PSS- SPro, yeah I did that recently, but since it's just me, it didnt work too well!

Yep... My grandmother tought me how to sew my own ripped jeans and cuff my own pants when I was pretty young on an old treadle Singer. In my teens I worked in a custom shop that built and upholsered hot-rods... Cool job for a kid! The owner finally let me sew the covers for the seats in my own hot-rod, after a lot of pleading. I did a lot of grunt work removing & installing seats before I ever got to sew anything. I still have a newer industrial walking-foot sewing machine... and about a half dozen other antique Singers in perfect working condition.

See those jeans? That was the style--you let them deteriorate and just kept adding patches until eventually, it was ALL patches. No bluejeans LEFT!

I used to hand-stitch them on myself, because my mother wouldn't do it. She wanted to throw me out of the HOUSE for wearing those pants!

I miss that horse--his name was Caravan and he had a heart of gold.

I worked in summer camp in Pennsylvania teaching riding (at the time of this picture I was a groom). You could put the most frightened, spastic kid in the world on him, and he would literally do whatever he had to to give him a good, safe ride.

I mean, this horse really watched out for his rider, which is kind of rare.

We used to lease them for the summer, and one year, we had a horse (Blossom) who was always up on her toes, spooked at the slightest thing, and wouldn't let ANYONE ride her--except me. She was pure magic with me on her, and at the end of the summer, the owner said, "Ira--you want Blossom? If so, she's yours. I can't do anything with her anyway." (He was basically afraid that a kid would get hurt on her and he'd be sued.)

Man, what a heartbreak not being able to take her:

I used to take 3 buses to get to the stable near Prospect Park to ride. And while in high school, I worked at Aqueduct, Belmont, and the stable near Central Park.

People on those buses just LOVED the smell of me after I had been riding and mucking stalls.

It's funny how these threads go from one topic to another. I will try to get it back from horses to sewing. (Do love the pics!)
I have sewed (sp) since was little but never worked on anything big. I did sew the curtains for the trailer out of dish towels. Not to hard. If we are going to have a quilting contest, I've done that too. Acouple of years ago I had a stack of old Levi's that I couldn't get into anymore or had worn out in the usual palces. I cut them up into 6" squares and sewed them together inside/outside to create a checkerboard look. THen I got some good warm flanel (a MANLY pattern) and put it together. It now is part of the trailer. A nice, warm blanket that I made, and I'm proud of it.
