Somebody is hijacking my WiFi

My network is only secured by enabling the WEP. If they want to hack anymore than that, then they must want it more than I do. I'll just turn off the wireless by switching to my wired router.

I wired my house with CAT5 cable before wireless became affordable. I only use the wireless for the laptop. If I really have to, I can just plug it into the ethernet in the living room.

Use WPA if your router supports it. It is much stronger than WEP!!

How can you see the "pinging you"?

I look at the lights, and since the only thing in my house that's capable of communicating with it is my laptop, when it's off any activity has to be my neighbor. I've tried my laptop and the range is about 350 feet, I have a neighbor to the north and one to the south that are within range. Not sure which one it is but I just turn it off when I'm not using it.

most routers have a section for the dhcp scope and you can see how many ip's your rotuer is handing out and my router has a button right next to each listing to ban that computers mac address if it happens to get in

You can always turn off the power to your neighbors house...

When we were kids, we had this one neighbor that for some reason, we always turned his power off. Sometimes the main, sometimes just one breaker, sometimes just his Air Conditioner...all in his basement!

He never did figure out what was uP!!!

I have a tenant in my basement that I allow to share my connection. I didn't want them to have access to my part of the network, or to be able to do major streaming/downloading, so I used a spare junky PC as a wi-fi hotspot with firewall. It runs a linux distro that lets you configure what sort of access you want to allow, and the creator runs a server that can block access to porn etc. It's call PublicIP and can be foundhere
