Wife's always wanted a "boat"

No! No! please don't show me other sites.

This would be just "too" much fun.

I did it in the other order; I built the boat first and then the teardrop. Building the boat from scratch was fun but it was messy sanding all of that epoxy. I have a section on my website about building a 12' sailboat. I had never been sailing and had always wanted to build a boat so it seemed like a good idea. There are a number of folks that build boats on this forum. Some are really beautiful strip kayaks or canoes and some are probably like mine made from Lauan and painted with latex.

I am thinking of a 12' pirogue to throw on my teardrop......

I'm way ahead of you kid:

For a year, I've been planning to build the small Portuguese dinghy, using the same beaded birch like on my TD.

You know, it just seems so Do-able. Pleasant way to pass the winter in the basement.

If my wife doesn't kill me, it'll be fine.

Except in South Florida, no winters--and no basements.

I PM'd Doug about this way back, and according to the style I want, I'll only have to epoxy the seams. The rest will be varnished.

Gonna use the same birch skins I have on my TD now, and take two sheets and laminate 'em back to back, so the INSIDE surfaces will match the OUTSIDE surfaces, as well as the TD. I also contacted a guy from that sight who lengthened it from the plans, but what I'm basically building here is a toy boat:

Something to use in a lake or the Gulf side of the Keys for an hour or two, just me and my younger boy, so I'm gonna keep it the tiny size that the plans call for. Plus, be able to throw it in the back of the truck real easy.
Here we go again!

Doug,
That Glen-L.com darn near got me into some trouble a while back. I wanted to build the Bo Jest and my wife was about ready to have me committed. I guess it would have been a pipe dream thing. I wanted to build it then take a trip along the inland waterway here on the East Coast. I never got to build the boat, but got to take the trip down the waterway 4 years ago. What Fun!!!

Stan...I've got the plans sitting on the desk for the 2+...a day cruiser, wanted to build it out as a small cabin cruiser...hey If I can survive in a tear, a 19' like that would work out fine. Now if I could only get the dog to be of some help when putting in and out! Doug

That's the problem with emails and forums -- between the lines :? totally confusing and often unclear --

I was totally in jest, funnin', joking, with a big grin on my face. Even the emoticons often don't help.

Thanks for the input. Love the site and am looking for more.
