Here is the Intelligence report that our government prepared for Congress. Read this and then ask yourself if we invaded Iraq with a "pie in the sky" attitude. This administration played the American people for fools....

And now we have a real ugly situation. The Bush Administratation has created many of the problems we will face for many years.

The number of soldiers killed in gunfire in Iraq was announced on the radio today as 44 per 100,000. Before the Iraq war the death rate was 44 per 100,000 (training accidents, natural causes etc). About the same just different reasons, The scary figure was in the last number, in Washington D.C. the gun deaths are running at 80 per 100,000, in a city that has gun controls and no war going on it is more likly for you to get shot.

By definition, that figure excludes deaths from IEDs which seem to be the most common cause of attack these days. IMHO, a casuality is a casuality. It doesn't matter if the soldier was shot by an insurgent or died of some other cause.

Another thing to consider, the medical help soldiers recieve these days is vastly improved. As a result, a much higher percentage of wounded soldeirs are surviving thier wounds compared to previous wars. However, many of these soldiers will live with the physical and emotional scars for the rest of thier lives.

Counting ONLY gunfire deaths is not only misleading, it under values the ENOURMOUS sacrifices made by our military and thier families. Some of them are on thier second or even third deployments to Iraq.

Nope - I was refering to the gun deaths. 44 per 100k in Iraq, vx. 80 per 100k in D.C.
Sounds as if Washington is more dangerous than Iraq.

Well I truly think we should pay soldiers to sit home and watch CNN. However, how real is that. They didn't sign up for "Romper Room." We have an all volunteer Army. They know it's the Army. They play with real guns. I hate for even one to die or be injured mentally or physically.

We pray for the safety of every one of our soldiers, but it's the military. It is what they do.

As for WMD's, Sadam had 5-7 months to get rid of anything he needed to get rid of. Even I could do that. Perhaps we shouldn't have given him a warning. He then could have used them on our boys and girls.

btw --- got any idea how many American young people are killed in non-combat circumstances around the world. Just working, playing, traveling, walking to school, driving a car---

You have to watch who made up the numbers' lists and whose Ox is getting gored. Those numbers are what was on the radio, on a Conservative show, and we all know how any stats. can be manipulated to either show us in a good light, or the other guys in a bad light.
When any newsgroup comes out with a report you don't know what kind of a bias is spun into it before it was aired.
A friend of my wife, just had her brother come home from Iraq, and he was appalled at what he sees on our TV. He said it is nothing like that-- yes soldiers and citizens are getting killed--but it is in a small area of the country. What upsets him the most is they don't show the people that are thankful, the kids going to school, the water plants, and the electricity that is comming back on. He came home feeling like he helped accomplish something and now from watching TV he wants to blow his brains out.
So how are we supposed to process what is going on when we don't get all the FACTS.

Does anyone remember real journalism? You know, when they reported facts and we could actually believe them without having to analyze what sort of bias or spin they, or their networks, put on their reports. It seems to me that a journalist with an agenda is no journalist. Sadly, that type is becoming the rule rather than the exception.

Anyone remember how many Journalist didn't think a scandal was news, especially if keeping it quiet fit thier definition of what was best for the country.

Not too much difference. I am not sure you could trust them long ago or now. We need to go back to talking amoung ourselves and getting first hand reports.

Enter the computer age. :D ;)
