Dexter axles Group buy?

I'm building backwards from how everyone else is building tears. I built my body on the floor of the garage with no frame underneath. When it is rigid enough, I will lift it onto the frame.

I talked to my buddy who is welding my frame, he can also get Dexter axles. The only thing is, they end up costing the same amount as they do online when you add shipping ~$159 and $40 shipping. I was going to drive to San Antonio to pick mine up and avoid the shipping charges. It only costs me $15 in gas to get there and back.

He also said that if the order were large enough, shipping would be free. If anyone in the Austin area would like to go in on this with me, send me a PM. I don't have all the details so I don't know if it will be feasable. I'm just checking to see if anyone is interested. Probably won't happen for a couple weeks.

I didn't know they were available in San Antonio. I ordered mine from Southwest Wheel in Amarillo and the shipping was $26.

wow $159.00 is a good price. Do the dexter Axles have an adjustable ride height? I have the flexiride like SteveH has from Southwest Wheel.

I buy my axles from ABC trailer parts in Moulton, Alabama www.abctrailerparts.com it is cheaper even with shipping compared to the dexler axle supplier here in Phoenix,AZ

I'll need to know more info about the axle before I say if I can get in or not, but I would like to do SOMETHING towards getting my tear built. Don't want to put my hat in the ring and find out I ordered a 500lbs axle.

Not adjustable by the end user but they are available in different heights. I guess you can say that it's a one time adjustment. Right now, I'm just guessing at the arm angle. I like the flexiride because I could adjust it after it is all put together.

I looked at their axles, the price is right but they said "2000lb Trailer axles are out of stock till further notice". Also, theirs are leaf spring axles, I didn't want my tear to ride that high.

I wanted a lot of info too, that's kinda why I built mine without a frame. Now that I have the outside width, the wheels, and the tires, I know exactly how wide to order the axle. The only unknown to me is the down angle and how much space is needed between the body and tire. Yes, it is the 2000lb version of that one. He priced me for a Dexter#9 1K-2.2K axle with 5X4.5in and 6.5in hub faces.

Yes, you're talking about the half axles or stub axles. But that's not what I want to use. I want a full axle with the tube running the length of the axle.

So comparing apples to apples, which one is lighter?

What advantages are there to a full length axle verses half axles? Sure wouldn't mind the weight savings if they work like full length axles.

With the full axle, no worry about alignment side to side... Stubs have to be mounted more securely, and lined up properly..

I don't see a great weight saving... I would only go with stubs if there were a drop-down box in the way..... But, I don't want to worry about the engineering with stubs...
