Me and Race
Elizabeth and Race
You folks are supposed to be interested in the trailer!

The Mustang Jr was produced in the late 60's by a company called Powercars. They also made Thunderbirds, Desotos, Plymouths, etc. They were bought out by a company called Conval in ~1970 and Race's car was manufactured by Conval. Race can't actually reach the pedals, but it is his car (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!). The gas and brake pedals are right behind the front bumper. Race can steer it, but it's dangerous; the steering goes lock to lock in a half turn of the steering wheel and when he turns; well he turns sharp. It takes a little twisting to get my roomy exterior to fit into it's tiny interior. The little cars are rare and most people only see them when one of the Shriner's groups enter their Powercars in a parade.
Nobody really gives a hoot about me, but Race is very popular. He and his Mustang Jr have been featured in three national Mustang magazines and a couple of advertising flyer's in the last year.
This particular car has been re-powered; the original 3hp Briggs has been replaced with a 3.5hp Tecumseh. Top speed is about 18 miles an hour (29KPH).. It has a unique centrifugal clutch that includes a set of planetary gears. When a brake band is applied to the outer clutch housing the planetaries take over and the car reverses. The car has a working radio (Ipod), working headlights, tail lights and brake lights. I'm working on a set of LED sequential tail lights now.
I have been towing the car on an open trailer, but I decided that such a cool little car deserved a cool little trailer. There's nothing cooler than a teardrop. It will look really cool behind our black '05 or black '65 mustang convertibles. Unfortunately, now I have the bug to build a camp trailer. I don't know when I'll find the time though. I have two 427 Cobra replica bodies sitting it the backyard that need to be made into cars first; then I have to restore the 1950's 14' Grundy wooden launch that Grandpa built from a kit and then I have to... Oh heck, I might never get around to it.
