Canned ham with no lights

Postby diychick » Mon Jan 08, 2007 10:38 pm

My first post...

I've been lurking for months, trying to decide on teardrop or canned ham.Canned ham is winning 'cause I don't want to sleep with my dog!

Anyway, I've found what appears to be a nice trailer 12' - but the owner says it has no lights - he removed them as he was going to replace. He says the wiring is there, but no lights.

Should I be worried - how would I figure out if the electrical was functional?

Thanks for your help - you guys/gals are great. Love reading your posts.

Which lights have been removed? What kind of condition is it in other that the lights and what year? Can I ask how much he is asking?

Don't you just hate it when three more questions come at you for your one? ;) Welcome to the board Anita.

If the wires have been hidden from the weather, chances are you won't have to replace the wirring. But if the exterior lights have been removed, then you need to check for possible dry rot from rain entering through the holes left by the missing lights.

By the way. Did I ask if you had any pictures? The Madjack and our Aunti M. just love the pic's.

cannedham

Postby diychick » Tue Jan 09, 2007 8:48 am

I haven't seen the trailer yet - it's posted on Craigslist. Seller is asking $3500 or best offer. He says the wood is excellent original condition - no leaks. Signs of previous leaks around windows very minor. He thinks the windows were left open while being stored? Comes with icebox, range, stove, closet - the typical 12' canned ham. Exterior is unpainted, couple of dents.

Price seems high,as I've seen others go for $2k. But, seen some on eBay fetch $3800 (lost that one).

I appreciate your help and welcome to the board. I really don't know much about how to assess the 'worthiness' of these trailers.

Sigh. What to do. What to do.

My understanding is all external lights have been removed. He says the internal lights work perfectly. [/img]

From what I can see in the pictures, with water damage inside and no lights outside even $3000 is on the high side. Does he have the lights somewhere? The problem with so many people today that has an old trailer out back somewhere think they have a gold mine because of TV. But a non-restored trailer is only worth a few hundred dollars. And he isn't showing much with those pictures.

Teardrops are the ones you can't hardly touch for under a $1000+.

Hope that help'd some. Do what is comfortable for you. Oh, what state are you in? That also makes a difference.
