On Friday I picked up 16” of 3/4x3/4X1/16 for $6.46 at Modesto Steel.
Well worth the time to find a suppler.

I think I understand the question. The straight parts are 1x2's, and the curved section is 3/4" plywood cut to the same profile.

If that wasn't what you were asking, then the correct answer is blue. No green! :thinking:

Ok, I got ya. Were you able to use the curved remainder piece? Or would it only be useful to scribe the curve to cut out of a bigger plywood piece?

Hmm. I'm pretty sure I didn't use those pieces for anything. The sides of the camper are 1/4", and I think I just trashed those pieces.

Why these questions NightCap? You gonna build another camper?

Hey All,

Long time since the last update, but I've been busy with work, life, blah blah blah.

I installed a GE 5050BTU AC in the Puffin today. I still have to seal it and trim it out, but it's kickin' some cold friggin' air now. :thumbsup:

Please pardon the wires/mess. I haven't cleaned up yet.

I cut a hole about 12 x 18 under the air conditioner in the floor so that I won't have to worry about drainage. The AC is support by a 2x2 that runs under the AC frame across the hole I cut in the floor. I sealed the AC compartment with epoxy to seal it from moisture.

I was sweating like mad installing it. It's about 120% humidity and I'm glad I did as I'm going to be doing a 3 day camping trip in East Texas this weekend. WooHoo! I'll let you know how well (or not) it works.

Whoops. Seems that there was a lot of heat with just a hole in the bottom of the AC section. Seems that heat must rise or something? :oops:

I went ahead and cut out another vent on the side of the camper to get some air moving across the AC. Seems to work much better now. Nice and cooooooooooool. :snow

Nice... I was wondering how you had done the A/C... BTW how did you get the textured look on the white paint on the ouside of the camper? Also did you make a door for the hole under neath to be shut during travle? or you not worring about it?

The textured look is paint texture from Home Depot that is mixed with the paint. I used a medium texture. I'm going to repaint the inside of my camper using a fine texture and beige paint. I'm not as happy with the sponge paint now. It hides a lot of imperfection, but it's just not what I was after.

There is no door for the bottom of the AC compartment - I just cut a hole in the floor and sealed the wood with epoxy. The AC compartment is simply a box inside the camper that's sealed from the rest of the camper.

Sweet.. Thanks for the info on the texture, will have to keep that in mind. Yah im building a camper, stumbled on this site a few months back and have been enjoying it ever since. I have just started my build though, actually just picked up a HF trailer yesterday, assembling it this weekend (was waiting for it to go on sale, turns out I also received a 15% off any single item coupon in the mail as well, so I was able to get the model with the 12" wheel for a NICE price of $203 out the door. I plan on (if you dont mind) taking some of your ideas and mixing them with some of the widget. With me, the misses and our 1 year old daughter a traditional teardrop is pretty much not an option and I love the way yours turned out.

With the A/C in the front, do you think that is going to make tounge weight an issue?
