Dean, Do you remember Bruce's set up at the IRG.

I remember enough to remember the thought that it would be "light years" before I even needed to consider something like that.
As far as his setup goes... Nope, don't remember how he had it.

I looked and looked but I couldn't find the picture I was looking for. He has his dish on a long cable and a small platform that he can move where ever he needs to get a signal. Maybe he has that picture. I've seen it here, but I can't find it now.

Is it the one with the pvc frame base that looks straight up in the sky?

No, I don't have a pic of it. But I've seen it in some ones album in the last couple of months. Just can't remember who it was or what I was looking for or why I was in thier album. It's a senior thing you know. At least that's what I keep telling myself. :?

Sudden Link all gone.
I've now joined the age of sattelite TV.
The Directv tech came today and installed everything and he even sold me an extra dish setup for the teardrop. All I need now is a tripod or somesort of mounting base. Oh yaa... A completed teardrop too.
Basic cable for 50 someodd channels, was costing me $51.72 per month.
Now I get 150 channels, have DVR and can take it with me when I go camping for a few more dollars than half of what I was paying with cable.
The tech told me he's flooded with folks switching from cable to sattelite.
I spotted a Sudden Link truck driving by today and flagged the guy down.
He goes, "I see you're going sattelite..."
"Yeap... Please disconnect my cable, call your office and let me know what my closing bill is and I'll give you a check right now."
Wrote out the check and sent him on his way...

Check ebay for the dish tripod. I have one I use for tailgating. I think I found it for less than $50. Get the tallest one you can find. I don't remember how tall the tripod is but the top of the dish is about 5 ft. I wish it were a couple feet taller. At our tailgate parties we get from 20 to 100 people and some times someone ends up standing directly in front of the dish  and blocking the signal. Course I guess I could just go and buy a longer poll.

Good luck with the DT, I'm sure you will enjoy it at home and on the road.

Welcome to a better TV world. This is what I use.

Got the antenna at a swap meet and the base at Costco. They are coming back in stock since all the toys have left
I have seen one bolted to a large concrete block that looked like it worked well. I added a bit of old wet suit to work as a washer and keep the pole secure.

Dennis,
I've always been against this and said I'd never do it... But I guess I'm getting old.
Since they had the four room special and I only had two TVs, I'll be using the other two recievers out in the shop. I bought two little flat screens for the shop, one of which will go in the teardrop, while camping.
Instead of laying on the couch when a cup race is on now, I'll be working on the teardrop out in the shop!
(Maybe older, but wiser too) ;)

There comes a time when sleeping off the ground is better and so, too, with decent TV reception in the wilds. I have a 13' flat screen that is just perfect.

And I make sure I olives for my gin martini (not one of the fruity things in a martini glass. ) A bit of good cheese and I don't care what I have for dinner.

Just a note so as to not lead anyone astray from what I said earlier about the costs for Directv... Found out something by visiting the website and talking with customer service today.
I wasn't told this by the initial sales rep when I placed my order, or by the install tech yesterday...
Although the promotion said four room service (Which would mean 4 recievers are needed) for free, with a free choice of upgrading one of the recievers to either a DVR (Like T-Vo) or upgrading one of the recievers to a HD reciever... There were some monthly fees I wasn't told about.
There is a $4.99 monthly service fee for each of the extra recievers... in my case that would be 3 extra recievers, which total $14.97 each month.
Now I did agree yesterday, during the installation to try the service protection plan which I initially declined and that will add an additional $5.99 to the bill each month.
I also found out that it takes a month or so before the $100.00 cash back thing takes effect. (BTW- they credit your bill $10.00 each month for 10 months)
All told my first month's bill actually worked out to be about the same as cable... or $20.96 extra from what their promotion touts.
I still think it's a better deal than cable...
