I just joined tonight and hope to build a teardrop this summer. Anyone else from the Chicago area (I live in Oak Forest, southwest suburb) that's recently built one that might be willing to be my mentor?

If you can't find anyone locally, there are about 4000 online mentors right here. Just ask away. But they will want pictures of your build in return.

This site is a great place for ideas and will provide an answer to any question that might come up.

There is a pretty good sized group getting together April 27-29 in Racine,WI. There will be some homebuilt &Camp Inn manufactured tear drops there. It will be great opportunity to see and meet some from this forum.

Donkro...a gathering is a great opportunity to get to see a lot of different ideas and meet the people...but if you can't make it to one in time for whatever stage you are in your build, ask away...there are tons of people that will help you out...also check out the galley gallery and the threads on interior treatments. The big thing is....there are no hard rules, build what you want, use your imagination...and you probably won't find a more supportive group of people around. Spend some time looking and searching photos of what you think you like....most importantly...have fun with it and keep people posted with photos, the encouragement will propel you through your perceived tough times. Welcome aboard  Doug

Hi Donkro, welcome to the group. I'm afraid I can't be much help directing you to any Illinois tear builders, as I left Rockford 57 years ago in search of warmer climates. All of us that have built a teardrop were in the same place, knowledge wise, as you are right now. Building your own tear is half of the fun of owning one. Use your imagination and design away, there are plenty ideas to be had on this forum. Just ask, and remember, take pics of all stages of construction and post them, you will enjoy them yourself, as time goes on. Good luck on your build.

Welcome to the Mayhem Donkro, I'll be your Mentor, provided you supply the airline tickets
Have fun and ask away as you already have all the info here and, by the way, it's Miriam who always asks for the pics first and then tries to lump it on Madjack and me 8)

Cheers
Paul

Welcome to the forum Mayhem,

Sounds like you have lots of people waiting to give you the answers, so start asking away!
