Yes, but least it doesn't stink as bad as tobacco, and I still try and stay upwind of the campfire, too.

Amen

I get tired of hearing smokers/drinkers at work say "I wish I could afford a nice vacation like yours". I tell them that if they didn't smoke a pack a day and drink a case or more of beer every weekend, they could afford a nice vacation too!

I moderately smoked :pipe: cigarettes from Junior high school in the early 60's to when I cold turkey quit in 1973. The morning I quit I woke up with this awful taste like the cat had just did her thing in the cat box and walked on my tongue. :? It's the best favor I have ever done for my self. :applause: When I get around smokers I try to stay away from the smell not that I want to smoke, just can't stand that stale smell. I took my 36 yr old son to the airport last month in Jane's car. The next day she complained he stunk up her car :x and he didn't even have a cigarette in my presence or the car. I'm like the other guy, I don't smoke, drink, dope, gamble so can afford the things I want. It use to be a smokers world from the 40's to 60's but the tide has changed for the better. In our state you have to smoke 25 feet from public buildings now.
I can be friends with a smoker as long as he respects my air space, otherwise I'll walk away.

Used to smoke mostly a pipe. I still love the smell of good pipe tobacco and a good cigar as well as burning leaves in the fall, but I don't have the urge to restart. I stopped about 21 years ago as I watched my Mother die from lung disease.

I don't care if you smoke (as Gage said) as long as you and I maintain mutual respect for each other. They are your lungs and it's not illegal. (yet)

Same with Dogs and Cats.

Joe, maybe I'll share a good cigar at Camp ADK in June.

I tried a cigar after a nice dinner party at lake cottage in Indiana last year. It was a perfect evening and after dinner we had some drinks on the deck and I was offered a cigar. I got the "evil eye" from my wife but the cigar experience was really wierd. I wondered what inhaling would be like after quitting 21 years ago. To my surprise , it didn't affect me one bit. I was amazed, but I didn't start smoking again.
Sure smelled good though.

I'll probably drink more than smoke. The Liver can restore itself better than the lungs. (I think  )

Well Gage, I've made my first step and this past christmas I purchased my choice of trailers. I bought the TS 4x8 no floor. I felt that with what I've learned from all you great people, that was the perfect trailer for me. I'm not a real camper and never really have been, though I camped out at the lake some when I was a boy. My thoughts are to build a small TD from the GenBen plans so my two boys (7 and 3) and I can do a little bonding before it is too late. Time seems to be just flying by these days.
So that's about as far as I am now. But when it warms up a little here in Texas, I will get started and go gunho.
And yes MJ, I'll remember da pics.
Hey that's a start. And who knows, bonding with the boys may just change your mind about camping. You just may learn to love it also.

Have a question (putting a little wood on the fire). How many of you non smokers drink alcohol? Me, I can't stand being around a drunk or one who drinks excessively. They are usually loud, obnoxious and very stupid. And most likely doesn't know what the true cause of a drunk is. Think about it.

I respect all smokers for their decision to do so, and applaud all that police their butts. Cigarette butts are the scourge of the earth. I wish all people took the time to discard them as appropriately as you all do. I smoke an occasional cigar (with an fine, adult beverage) and offer one to anyone that asks.

I'm an ex-smoker (quit many years ago). Love a cold beer but it gives me a headache, so I don't drink much.

Most of the former smokers I've run into are extra-sensitive to the smell - maybe they don't want to be reminded of the damage they might have done to themselves. I wonder about it from time to time.

My dad was a major-league pipe smoker when I was a little kid. I used to get a handful of Dill's pipe cleaners and do his whole pipe collection. God what a stink! Funny how I didn't mind it then.

I'll have an occasional beer with Mexican or Italian food but it's a beverage then not something to get all sloppy and drunk and make a fool of your self. :)Danny

Well Gage, it's like this. I used to drink with my friends and didn't know when to quit. There was no such thing as moderation for any of us. After a while I slowed down but still got plastered :? . Then one day I said to myself enough is enough, and on August 26, 1996, I took my last sip of alcohol. One sip of champagne on my wedding day and haven't touched any alcohol since. And do not regret it.
I feel the same way as you. I hate being around a drunk. You can't shut them up. Politely that is.
Dooner.

I had my last drink July 4th 1978 and sure would like another one but don't dare. ;)

There is a hidden message in the pic of my smoker. Did you see what the inside of my smoker looks like.

Some more pics.

And this is a good one. It seems only smokers get this.

I'm pretty sure that other peoples' drinking is ten times the risk to me that other peoples' smoking is. Ten times the annoyance too.

A complete ban on smoking in pubs/bars/restaurants starts here this year, after being very successful in Ireland. But as one commentator wrote: It would do more good for public health to stop drinking in smoking bars, rather than to stop smoking in drinking bars.

I remember a comment from an old Irish pub patron at the time - "It's a pub, not a f**kin' health club!"

What I find interesting is that while politicians on both sides of the pond are willing to ban smoking here, there and everywhere, they are not willing to make tobacco illegal: tax revenues are far more addicting than any controlled substance.

Here in North Carolina a lot of people make their living from the tobacco industry. The pay rate for standing there all day watching cigarettes go by on a machine is quite a bit higher than that offered to a skilled machinist or a teacher.

Politicians keep this in mind. They even went so far as to spend a big chunk of the tobacco settlement money on a Tobacco Museum. It was supposed to have gone for anti-smoking education.

Once in a while you'll see a "human interest" story, with the young tobacco grower, wife, and small kids standing there explaining that they're just trying to feed their families, etc., they're not trying to hurt anybody, etc. A few generations back that argument might have had some validity, but not now.
