I assume you would not or could not add color to epoxy since it is mixed in small batches, correct?

Gel coat could not be applied on a vertical surface right?

I think you all understand the look I want. And from this conversation it sounds like the best way to get as close to this look as possible will be an automotive clear coat. I have a friend that restores/ creates street rods, maybe I could get him to do that for me.

WarEagle...If you choose to paint your tear, I'd recommend the 2 stage automotive paints (base/clear) It does cost more, but you do get more depth in the finish and the clear gives you a 2nd chance to take care of any dust or problems in the paint prior to the clear coat. You also have a wider range of colors and additives, metallics, pearls etc...easier to match a tow vehicle if you want..I'm a garage painter, so need the 2nd chance at times. Doug

Hmmm.... me too, make that most times! If there are any bugs around, any they do come out in the middle of winter, they will find what I'm paintin'!

And i agree, go with the base/clear, easy to use and gives a great finish.

Even when you have an professional paint booth you still get bugs or lint, always something. :x The trick is knowing how to fix it.
