On the Generic Benroy plans it doesn't go into detail on the window construction. Has anyone made their own windows? If so can i get some information on how to make an opening window with a screen?

I made my own windows based on a design that Andrew suggested. It is all wood, a hopper design (tilts in from the top) has a seperate screen and works well. Mine is glazed with plexiglass and the whole thing lifts out.

Each side is exactly the same.

There is a guy in Oregon by the name of Marty B. who made his own porthole windows. He used an aluminum pie plate that he had powdercoated and cut out the bottom sorta like a pease symbol. He used plexi for the glass and a chain and lever mechanisum to open, close & lock the windows. Quite ingenious design. This is what he use to do for a living, designing things. His tear is the blue one in this picture. Danny

I am very pleased with that design. I built it so the glazing lifts out, so when necessary, I have a lot of ventilation.

Haven't had it in a downpour yet.

I have no problem with buying windows. If you are building an aluminum clad tear then alumin windows look pretty nice.

But, if you are building an all wood tear, and that is important, or if the budget just won't stretch, then there are alternatives. They take more time, but they can work very well.

I have screens being made for them at the local hardware store.

Cheap and easy. Just have to figure out how to lock them.
