If you can get a picture of this adhesive or the complete lable name you will get some really good information. The only glue I paid attention to that came in a gallon can was a contact type. I think Dave has some experience with this type. ;) 8)

Hi Miriam,

The brand is ACE and it's in a gallon can. Construction Adhesive, easy to trowel, formes waterproof durable bond, then goes on to say for interior use.

I'm thinking we purchased the wrong stuff. This will perhaps work well with interior wall panels and setting the tile in place on the floor.

Lynn,
If you can take it back, perhaps you should. I have gone through a gallon of tightbondlll. It really is good stuff. To do the sides to floor I used PL construction (not the stripe) because it fills voids. You might also lay up a good supply of real cheap brushes to spread the glue if you use a liquid.

BTW - vinegar gets sticky stuf out of your hair. ;)

Okay, here's the next question; Where can we find TiteBond III by the gallon. Lowes has a 16oz container. Does anyone else have a better source?

As much as I hate the place, try Home Depot.

I found Titebond II by the gallon at HD but not III. The biggest container III came in was the quart size. I ended up using II because it was cheaper and easier (for me) to find. Besides, I only used it on parts that shouldn't see any water.

I used epoxy or polyurethane caulk for the parts that would be exposed to the elements.

Most commercial lumber yards will have wood glues such as Titebond by the gallon. Titebond III is relatively new--there may not be the market for it yet.

Thanks for the tip, Guy.

I found Amazon to be the cheapest so far but the price of shipping makes purchasing at Lowes by the quart the best deal. At least for my area. I did call the local lumberyards and they don't have the product yet.

I'll use the construction adhesive as an extra layer of protection to secure the floor tiles to the floor, after that I'll be stuck with 1/2 a gallon of the stuff. I'm asking around to see if I can donate the stuff to someone, so far no takers.

Thanks for all the wonderful tips, next time I'll contact you all BEFORE I purchase the product that was recommended to me. Perhaps it isn't that bad of a product, I just hate waiting the 24 plus hours. I know it would harden faster if the temps were a bit warmer.
