Well Buck and Lise are in. That leaves 1 available site (maybe 2)

The sun is shining and it is supposed to be 64 degrees today. Yesterday was nice. This kind of weather is nice.

Now that winter is over in Dallas (it lasts two weeks every year) I am going to finish out the TD this weekend. I'm going minimal, so it won't take much. As time goes by, the TD will evolve, I'm sure.

My old MSR stove is messed up, so I guess I need to get a new one. The old Weber Smokey Joe will never let me down.

Gotta stock the bar. Should I bring my portable ice-maker? How about the blender? :)

How does the pot-luck work. Any advanced planning? Or, do we just wing it. I'm good with meats and veggies. My only good dessert is Bananas Foster. Never tried that one at a campsite.

We have filled all of the sites we reserved (22 total). I am thinking about reserving a couple of more sites if they have some available. So, if anyone has decided to attend the Beavers Bend gathering just pm me and I'll see if we have more sites.
I'd love to fill up the entire Buckeye section with teardrops.

Well, I got the TD pretty much done this weekend. Just a few details left.

The Chrysler Press guy is sending me a new Jeep Patriot for the weekend. It is the Jeep version of the Dodge Nitro (not that abomination known as the Jeep Compass). Should be just right for the TD towing duties.

I can't wait to get back to camping -- it's been quite a while.

Calling All Razor Backs,
This is the route I am considering to Beavers Bend. I am thinking 71 south through Fort Smith and down to DeQueen. Anyone know how this stretch of road is? Would you advise a different route?

Thanks,

Scott...fastrun down to Joplin from KC...increasing mountains as you head to Rogers/Ft. Smith, nice scenery with a lotta up and down...from there down to DeQueen is country hiway...not bad, a little windy, some imitation mountains...you will cross over the Talla-somethin Mountains going over from DeQueen...nice secenic drive all in all...you can also cross over to OK at Ft Smith and come down thru Poteau...only been that once...MANY years ago, so can't tell ya much about it....

Scott the run from you all the way to Ft. Smith should be good. Friends tell us 540 makes a big difference in travel time to Ft. Smith. The rest is hilly but supposed to be a good highway. Just don't slow down with a trucker behind you. 8)

If your wanting a site seeing tour your on the right path. If you want the least travel time ( cause your like me a leaving after work and will be driveing in the dark) then take 169 to Tulsa and 75 south to the Indian nation Turnpike and I N Turnpike to Antlers then HWY 3 to Broken Bow. Its a little more milage but 70-80 MPH makes it shorter in hours/minutes. Also only about 70 miles of two lane roads.

Madjack is right about the detour to Poteau, OK down US59 to US259 to Broken Bow, OK that is the best way and a lot more senic in fact it is the Senic US59 and Senic US259 to Beaver Bend turn off onto Senic US259A to the park. That's a lot of 59's. :R
If you notice the highway to the left of your purple line going out of Poteau,OK south that is the highway I'm talking about. Don't end up in Hochatown. :R

Anyone bringing a smoker? Mine is too big to bring.

I do, however, have a black bean concoction that is really good with Cue.

I'm planning on coming.
I had an old blue haired lady pull in front of me on my motorcycle. I got a few stitches in the ER but we (me & the bike) should be healed up in time to make the trip.
I was very lucky!!! :O

Greg,

Sure glad you are OK. Sometime when we see one another, I'll tell you my story about my scooter, and a Jaguar. It shuould discourage you a little.
