Roly,
Class of '79 HHS. Capt of the swim team in '79 the only year Harlem has won the Big 9 conference swim meet! Attend Grace Lutheran Church. The ever popular Top Hat Restrauant is gone and the town has shifted towards the interstate. Illinios St. is still a good neighborhood to live. My son moved to Pacific Beach north of San Diego when he turned 20, wanted the sun and fun of SoCal. The Rockford area has produced a lot of excellent wood workers! You are an inspiration to many on this site and set the standard high.

A logical question, Aunti M, now where would that baltic birch be used?

My "big" tear has laminated pine ribs in the galley hatch lid, making them 1 1/2" wide, plenty strong and match the rest of the Woody. In order to keep the weight down on the Stacker, I decided to cut the hatch lid ribs out of one piece of 1/2" baltic birch, making them about 1 1/2" high. The problem with the ribs being so thin, was keeping the screws in the 1/8" plywood, lined up and going into the center of the 'end grain' of the 1/2" ribs.

Baltic birch is glued up of many layers of knot-free birch. I think the 1/2" has 13 layers of material, making it super strong and doesn't look too bad when the edges are routered, sanded and varnished. Thanks for the kind words about my up-ended little cooking and sleeping pad.

Roly

Our dog, Liza, is a maltese, you know the kind of dog, when you let the hair grow long, looks like a dust mop without a handle. We keep Liza clipped in a puppy cut, so her hair doesn't hang in her food, (and I don't have to carry a hair brush in my pocket all of the time). We rescued her from the dog pound, as they were going to put her down the next day! Someone abandoned her along side of the road, and now she doesn't like me to get out of her sight.

I have built an aluminum tear for her, which is about 18" long. We take it along when ever we camp and she loves to sit in the galley area and let folks take her picture. I have a huge food bowl with the word "KILLER" painted on it. She really doesn't know she is a dog, since she has her own pillow at the head of the bed and sometime in the middle of the night, crawls down below the covers and snuggles up next to me to get a bit warmer. When we got her, I wanted to call her Teardrop, but that didn't go over too well with the sweet wife. So, Liza Doolittle it is.

Roly, enjoying my tiny teardrop companion.......and please don't guage a person's manliness by the size of his dog.

Roly, You are making me mad. I want to build one like your but I can't afford to right now. I'm also not sure if I need one or if I'm just looking for a project.

Way to go. I like it. Thanks for the pictures. Got any more?

Hi Roly!

Small world. Our family farm was north of Rockford on the River Road. We had two family homes behind the armoury, next to Sears on the Rock River on Indian Terrace. Lot's of memories! I can still smell the ice rink at the Wagon Wheel in Rockton....

Take a look at http://pages.prodigy.net/rfs2growup/thisisme.htm . I think that it will bring back some memories...
