Greatings from Randy & Linda in Nebraska!

Can't believe I've been spending the whole day surfing the web and trying to come up with plans to build our own Teardrop Camper. (My wife can't either).

Her, in her middle 40's and me in my early 50's now have a Jayco 5th wheel camper with a jumbo slide. We're getting the bug to travel more distance than Nebraska. I told her why not get a second RV like a Teardrop and pull it behind our Town & Country and save on the diesel we burn in the Duramax.

5th wheel Rv for home and Teardrop for the long hauls. Thinking of Yellowstone next summer for a week and a half and might just build our own.

Boy! Finding out the new ones are expensive for what you get... or is it just me?

Any suggestions????

Welcome to the play pit RVP. Building it yourself brings it's own satisfaction... and the less you know the more fun it is.

For what you are getting---the price is probably fair. Depending on what you build and the quality of materials you can spend quite a bit on a DIY.

Look through the site, have fun, ask questions and always remember to Cause Paul and Madjack just love them. (me to)

Welcome. If you are referring to manufactured teardrop trailers like the Camp Inn you get your moneys worth in most cases. There is a lot of work involved in making a good tear. If you are handy there are plans at the top of this page for free and lots of help and advice on this forum. Danny

rpv986... About the price of commercially built teardrops… I think a good analogy may be to compare desktop PC’s to Laptops. It takes a good deal more finesse to get it right and keep it small compared to just arranging the parts in a big box. Most of the manufacturers seem to have the price about right for what you get from what I've seen. The best answer is to just build your own… and you’ve come to the right place for all the help you will ever need. Welcome aboard...

Welcome to the forum. One other small detail nobody has mentioned yet is that the Mother of all Teardrop Gatherings is coming to YOUR backyard, Minden, NE this June. If you can make it, you'll have a great opportunity to check out a very large number of these neat little trailers.

Thanks guys. We're planning a trip to Louisville for the annual "Testical Festivle" that weekend and eat nuts! Those plans very likely will include a trip to Minden to see what's happening. Probably won't be able to camp with you guys and I don't know if I'd have one built by then, anyway. But...that would give me a chance to meet some of you and get some ideas... and I'm sure I'll get plenty.

The campground at Pioneer Village isn't super large, so how many do you anticipate attending... (teardrops in all..roughly)?

June 14-17th. Now, when will everyone start pulling in. What events are planned and what goes on during the event. Do we need to bring anything?

Where did you find that post. I remember posting that after the first ITG. Anyways, the Tearjerkers is for the most part the East Coast Teardrop Group. Althought today they do have chapters also in the central area of the states and also in Colorado. I belong to S.C.T.T. (Southern California Touring Tears - West Coast). Any ways it was decided to have the ITG at Pioneer Village in Minden because some of the TearJerkers requested it be centrally located so they could attend. But then they made the excuse that it should have been in the middle of the week so they wouldn't have to take off two weeks from work. So they probably won't be there again this year. I guess us in California get more vacation time than those on the east coast. You'll see fewer teardrops from the West Coast this year for reasons I'm not going to discuss. Was that to much input?

Has anyone ever thought about having an annual get together at Yankton, SD. The big Lewis & Clark lake is up there and the SD campsites are tremendous. Boy! are they nice. The Gavins Point dam is also located there as well. If you like to fish and camp, that's our favorite for the Midwest. It is beautiful!

That would be Louisville, Nebraska. The annual Testicle Festival is held at "Round the Bend Steak House" just a little east of South Bend, Nebraska. Louisville is about 6 or so miles east of there where we always camp. Just NW of Southbend is "Eugene T. Mahoney" State Park which was recently built and completed about ??? 10 or so years ago. It's right on I-80 just south of Ashland. About half way between Lincoln, NE and Omaha, NE.

Three years ago, they had Neil McCoy and two years ago.. Mark Wills. Don't know what the plans are for this year, but hope it's good. http://www.roundthebendsteakhouse.com/index.html

We haven't been to the Yankton area in a few years, but you are right, it's a nice place. We've been wanting to get back there, and bring our kayaks.

Definatly plan to make it to Minden, if only for the day. Lots of great ideas to be had there, and lots of great people to meet. I had so many new ideas when I left the first meet, my brain was on overload

How does one get out the bug and his feelers for an annual meet in the Midwest at Yankton.. Lewis & Clark area for 2008? Anyone interested?

I'm really starting to get into this Teardrop thing. Got my plans all laid out and my wife's on my side... going to get my parts for the TD frame this morning, and ready to go upwards from there. Only one problem. With time limited... I will really be cutting the corners to get 'er done and complete by summer of 2007.

I'll be ready to go in 2008, for sure... and then maybe 2007, who knows!

I dont know about a bug and feelers but a MINI and a Dragon Wagon could make that trip.
Hope you make it to the ITG as well.
Also Keep an eye out the 28th of April. The MINI caravan from Denver to North Carolina will be going by Shelby sometime in the afternoon. We are staying in Omaha that night and I will be pulling the Dragon Wagon.
