Daytona Duals... (Dual Duels)

Postby Dean in Eureka, CA » Thu Feb 15, 2007 4:06 pm

The first dual is in the books...
Stewart, Earnhardt one, two will start 3rd and 5th.
Waltrip starts in the back and races his Toyota in, having never driven the car before today... all three of his cars will be in the 500. I don't believe he didn't know about the forbidden fuel additive he was penalized for.
Boris Said races his way in.
Late caution flag costs 72 year old James Hylton a shot at the 500.
Mike Bliss misses 500 by less than two feet.
Former 500 winner, Ward Burton slams roof of the car with his fist in frustration for missing this year's Great American Race.
Mayfield awaits the results of dual #2 to see if he is in or out.
Elation, heartache and tension are what the duals are all about... Probably the most intense races of the year.
Dual #2 about to start.

I'm not trying to be a smartass but do you mean duel? I'm trying to figure out pairs of things and dual isn't making much sense.

...I have come to believe that, conflict resolution, through violence, is never acceptable.....................mj

Leon,
This year, the name of these two races is the Gatorade Duels.
For years, they were known as the Twin 125's... They are qualifying races for the 500.
Nascar is in change mode these days and has increased the length of these races this year
I'm also seeing "Duels at Daytona" on the TV screen.
I was using dual, meaning two races... Sorry for any confusion.

I'm glad you said dual, and not duel...... Then I'd be real confused too....

Well... I meant dual meaning two races, but nowhere am I seeing dual... It's duel, so I'd have to say Leon is right.

OK...
The second (dual) duel is in the books as well...
Nemecheck and Mike Wallace race their way in.
Sterling Marlin backs off, relying on speed to make it in, keeps a Toyota from getting in and that means Mayfield goes home... Misses the 500 by five one thousandths of a second! (That's really gotta hurt)
Doug will be happy... Gordon takes tires late to take the checkers in the reamaing "Dual Duel", He'll start 4th.
Other notables going home... Skinner, Vickers, Kenny Wallace, Bill Elliott and Paul Menard... Among others.
Dale Jarrett rounds out the field, using a past champion's provisional.
Great races!!!
Stuff was settled between turn four on the last lap and the finish line in both races!!!
Go Stewart!!!

Truck qualifying is up next...

If you have Directv and haven't signed up for NASCAR HotPass, be sure to catch the free preview during the Daytona 500 on these in car cameras...
Channel 795 Tony Stewart #20
Channel 796 Jimmy Johnson #48
Channel 797 Kevin Harvick #29
Channel 798 Michael Waltrp #55
Channel 799 Dale Earnhardt Jr. #8

Should be awesome!!!

Maybe Mayfield will make it in afterall... :o

What ever happened to the twin 125s and the Firecracker 400. Or Winston Cup for that matter.

One thing about sports these days, they are the biggest advertising dollar whores around. At least it's still called Lambo field.

The Firecracker 400 is now the Pepsi 400
Yaa... New words in Nascar these days, like spliter instead of valence...
Latest: Jeff Gordon penalized, sent to the back of the pack...
Starts 42nd, woulda started 4th... Sorry Doug.
Car was too low in post race inspection.
That brings the total of teams penalized this week to six. :o

That clears up a bunch!

Haven't had the time this year to see any coverage, and since XM dropped the races I can't follow on the radio either.

Dean...thanks for the info on the free thing...I'll check that out...I did score some Earnhardt #3 fabric and some Gordon 24 this last week, got it today, it's in flannel...unfortunately some of the ladies wanted Smoke #20 and I just didn't have it...that Nascar approved stuff just isn't available to small shops like me, so I get what I can when it is available...I put it on the cutting table with a sign mentioning that now is the time to get your Nascar fabric...hope I move it...Doug

Doug,
Those are some smart ladies that shop in your store.
You shouldn't have a problem selling Big E's stuff, but the 24...
You'll probably have to buy all of it yourself, if you want it to move.
(Sorry, couldn't resist)

Doug, if you have trouble moving the 24 stuff I could use to clean the brake dust off my wheels.
