I am still chuckling at the newest programming concern about the Daylight Savings Time Switch to 3/11/07. Yep, the fabric of our civilization is going to be torn apart by an early "spring ahead."
I am sorry, but I can't view this as the possible disaster that the Y2K scare caused. Of course cows will be confused about the correct time to give milk and the extra two weeks of early daylight will cause more fading to window curtains, but the worst that will happen is that people will be late to work and appointments.
Folks--there is a much greater disaster looming on the horizon, and those of us smart enough to see it coming can either prevent it, or profit from it. I'm urging all you retired COBOL programmers who went back into retirement after cashing their fat windfall royalty checks and contract fees for reprogramming for Y2K to do something for their fellow humans, or at least fatten the estates you leave to your heirs.
We need you to address and fix the Y10K problem now!!
Think about it--before Y2K, we were worried about losing 100 years and an all electronic equipment meltdown. With Y10K, it is even more serious. It requires an extra digit for the programming field. That will be a massive undertaking, and by the time it comes to pass, all you COBOL programmers who know the secrects will be dust, leaving hapless billions to suffer.
Personal jetpacks will fall from the sky killing hoverwalkers down below. Thermoplasmicnucleofusion reactors will fail causing a cascade that will lead to thermonuclear fusion explosions that will kill billions in New York City alone. Personal food and water regenerators from human waste products will fail and the populice will die from the largest E-Coli outbreak ever. I could go on, but I think you get the picture.
And I am sure you are asking--what about the Y100K problem? Get real. The asteroid that will strike the earth on April 16, 10318, will wipe out all human life, so who cares about programming for that?
So we should either fix the problem now or prepare for it. To set an example of what we should all be willing to do, I will gladly sell off some of the barrels of coffee, corn, grain, toilet paper and water that I thoughtfully hoarded, err, collected before Y2K, and for reasonable price.
Y10K. You have been warned. The prophet has spoken.
By the way, if my employer is reading this--I will probably be late for work on March 12th.
