Hi From Indiana

Postby racinbugs » Sun Feb 25, 2007 11:33 am

Hello to everyone from Indiana. I started at looking for some kind of old "tent trailer" or building one myself to solve my fast arrising problem of needing more room while camping in our 71 VW Sportmobile bus. I luckily stumbled on to the teardrops. I've seen them befor, but kind of forgot about them. I dont much like tents any way!I'm just in the planning phases, and wont be getting really seriouse for about a year.

Hey Racinbugs!

welcome to the forum. It's good to have another Hoosier. Seems like there have been several shouting out lately.

Just like Jst83 said....some on out to Turkey Run in May and look around. Hope you can make it.

Oh, and cool looking bus that you have there. You just don't see many of them around anymore.

I may try and make the deal in Turkey run. I'm In Terre Haute. They never made a deisel bus, but they did make a deisel Vanagon for a few years. Even slower than my aircooled! There are tons of engine conversion for these things though. Anything from Pinto, Rabbit, Subaru, chevy v-6-v8, Even Prosche 911. A VW TDI or even a turbo deisel Rabbit engine would be Awesome.

When Porsche were working with VW they realised they were wasting money and time on flying between their factories for meetings, so Porsche put a 911 Turbo engine (and not even 'just' a standard Turbo) in a Transporter. It had six big armchairs and cruised at somethign over 120mph.

Apparently they loved pulling up behind big Mercs and BMWs on the Autobahn and flashing them to get out of the way. However it's a mystery to me how a Transporter could run safely at these speeds - I've always found them to be a handful at 70mph in cross winds.

Racin
I sold the last of my collection a while back to finance a business venture. Had a '63 21 window, a '54 custom on a '70 frame, and a 71 Karman Ghia with a Porshe motor (had it to 135 mph and it scared the sh..... out of me). All total from 1973 was 42 vehicles. Used to run the eastern show circuit. Would like to get back into a early 60's truck, though
