What’s your best excuse?

Postby dhazard » Tue Feb 27, 2007 8:49 pm

I tweaked my back this weekend, so I’m taking some drugs :? and a couple of days off of work. As I’m sitting around in my drug induced stupor, I was thinking  about the best excuse for missing work. My best happened in Colorado Springs, I was working 2nd shift. They paid us on Thursday night so we could deposit our checks on Friday. I got up a little early to go to the bank, cashed my check, and had about 2hr before work… What can I do to kill two hr? The Midas shop next to the bank didn’t have any cars in the bays, my truck needed a new muffler. That should take less than 2hr, no problem… Talked with the guy came up with a price, got the truck up on a lift in about ten minuets. The mechanic got the old system out in no time flat. About the time he starts making the 1st pipe a big 4 door Ford stops in front of the bay and 2 Big guys in suits with bulges get out, next thing you know the mechanic on the ground being cuffed. I do a quick look around the shop; this is the only mechanic on duty… I have to be to work in about 1 ½ hr… Slight problem… About the time the cops get done padding the mechanic down cop cars start pulling up from every direction. A couple of news vans even followed them in. Uniformed cops start searching the bay and told the manager and me to stay in the waiting room. They then started looking in everything, including my truck. Finley after about 1 hr a cop came into the waiting area to talk with me and the manager, he told us that the mechanic was being picked up on a warrant but couldn’t tell us what it was for. He told us that everything was clear and that they were done… They drove off as fast as they had appeared leaving my truck up on the lift without any exhaust and nobody to make it… Big problem, I’m supposed to be at work in a few minutes. Ok, time to call the boss. When he answers the phone the 1st words out of his mouth was “How much is the bail?” that was before I had even said hi. He had driven by the shop on his way to work and seen my 53 up on the lift with the cops climbing all over it. He gave me the night off with pay. It was a good thing because Midas had to get a mechanic to drive up from Pueblo to do the system for my truck. I think they got me out by 9PM. One good thing, they didn’t charge for the exhaust, and the manager took me out for diner while we were waiting.

What’s your best excuse?

For being late... "My brother forgot to wake me up this morning..."
I chuckle to myself everytime I think about that one...
It was an honest reply to my boss, to which he said, "Maybe big brother needs to teach little brother how to get out of bed all by himself."

If I eat fresh oranges, grapefruit on any fresh citrus I get purple splotches in my skin. I don't know why because I can eat them any way except freshley peeled. It also doesn't hurt or anything, just the splotches.
So when ever I wanted to get off early I would just eat a orange. my skin would get splotchy and the boss would ask if I was feeling alright. I'd tell him no I didn't feel good. He would always tell me to go home for the rest of the day because I didn't look well.
Worked ever time.

   I used to call in with an eye problem, about the 3rd or 4th time the boss finally asked "What kind of eye trouble are you having?" My reply - I can't see coming to work! After that he never asked again 8)

Dan, Sorry to hear about your back. I've been off since Wednesday for the same thing. Thank God for Vicoden and whiskey.

I did it on Sunday getting changing into some grubbies, so I could make more circles on my trailer. I only have about 16’ to go.
I will make it to work tomorrow.

Take it easy on your back and don’t push it to fast, and have a shot for me.
