And you even live in the state that everyone should remember. "Show Me". Those two words will save you more money on your car than anything else. I used to have a good job as a auto tech, 23 years with the same company. Then someone got promoted a couple of times and then I think, over spent and in the end would do anything to extract money from a customers wallet. Eventually the customers figured it out and quit coming back. You can only do so many $700 oil changes before you piss people off. So for a new years present I got laied off because their isn't enough work. At least I now have time to work on my teardrop. So my point is, even if you don't know what you are looking at, say SHOW ME. It is harder to cheat someone if they are looking at the car.
The other thing, was the valve cover loose? On a car that age a valve cover would tend to stick tight even with the bolts loose (and that is not uncommon). The power steering fluid will spray out from the hose if it was damaged from the ice without the engine running, just from turning the wheels to move it around n the shop. These are just guesses as to what might have happened, not meant as a defence if the shop was in fact cheating you.
One more thing for everyone, read your owners manual. Follow maint. schedule B, where you change oil every 3 months 3000 miles. It will tell you What needs to be done and when. That way when a shop tries to sell you something you will know what the factory recommended.

BrwBier, it was not a shop it was a tow company or someone in the body shop. The intent to get a cheap car at auction. The car had to be run to get the oil through the gasket all over the motor before the insurance adjuster got there. The valve cover was lifted enough to not stick. I could stick my finger nail under it. This car had no oil on it when it went in.

The body shop knew they were fixing the car inspite of the cost. The only one left is the tow company. No machanics involved and there won't be. The hose to the power steering had a loose clamp inspite of the screw being tightened.

The age of the car wasn't the problem. I filled the car with gas and checked the oil and fluids in preparation for the ice storm. The car was covered with a tarp and snow for a week. There is no way anyone else got to the car.

BTW--The insurance commissioners office---"doesn't have anyone who investigates this. I should hire someone to do forensics to determine who "did" my car."

The Governors office---"No mam, we don't have a state agency to oversee these things. Take the person to court."

The police---"mam do you know who did this?" You could hire a lawyer and take them to court."

Miriam---"Now how would I know who did it?"

"Who do you think did it"

Me---I give my explanation

Copper---"I can take a report. But unless you know who did it we can't do anything. You could take them to court."

Has any one in your neighborhood try to buy it . I have seen that happen.I had bureau of automotive repair come after me for a Porsche 356 kit car came and lock my shop told me there where going to put me in prison take me bank account .So i told them I'd pay for a new Eng when i got the bill it was to replace a VW motor mine come with a watter cooled Subaru they got 2 years for changing Eng and false report

Miriam... That is true in any state. Automotive repair fraud is still American's number one complaint. Still, It's prolly a good thing you have to prove it. How else would you have it be?

I (little american me) do not have any authority to investigate anything and cannot prove anything. I think it should be proved but there is no way for me as an individul who isn't totally rich to do it. Perhaps this type of fraud exists because there is no reporting agency who can look into it.
