New tow vehicle

I picked up a new tow vehicle for my Hunter Shadow. It has the original engine and transmission, and a 12 volt electrical system. Best of all, it runs on unleaded gas. I will be painting the TD to match the car.

Right now, I'm not going anywhere with it - No brakes....

Anyone know where I can get a front bumper?

Very nice - 3-door (which is cute), humpy-backed and with a grille that scowls! It's a class act and it looks very original (which I like, being an apprentice old fart).

But is it safe to drive this without wearing a hat? If you look in the old photos, I think you'll find these cars were designed only to be driven by men or women wearing hats. You might want to invest in a selection, since you'll be needing a formal hat, a leisure hat, a vacation hat and possibly a working-on-the-car hat, so that you are correctly equipped at all times.

No prob, I have an aussie bush hat and many baseball caps.

The stock engine, which is a flathead 218 6 cylinder.

BTW ... how is your Hunter Shadow been working out for you?
I have the Hunter Fat Shadow and ... do like the functionality and well made
features. Where do you carry your "Big Iron" while going on the road to
show your cooking skills? Your pickup maybe... before your new rig? Will the
trunk of the new rig hold the Iron now, or in the back hatch area of the Shadow?

Nice find... I like it! Always loved those fastback coupes.

Those Plymouth bumpers are a bit hard to come by... It prolly had the ones with the "three grooves" in it? They were and still are very popular with hot-rodders. I'll ask around my local car club buddies...

Mike...congrats on the vintage tow iron....those old Mopar flatheads are almost bullet proof...I had one in a 38 with optional oil filter, and pulled a trailer over Eisenhower and Vail pass in Colo 3spd. no OD....with no problem...you won't light the world on fire with speed, but it doesn't matter, as you have the coolest ride on the road at that point...and a plus...you can get just about any part for that engine...they used it in cars and industrial engines forever...Have fun.... doug

I love my Hunter Shadow. I have modified the galley (see pictures on my web site), and have towed it with a '93 Isuzu pickup and a '91 Dodge Stealth. It is so light, it's like there is no trailer back there. I'm going to powdercoat the trailer with the same paint scheme as the car. Should look pretty good.

I've been keeping my iron in the tow vehicle. The Plymouth has a big trunk, and that's where it will go now.

BTW, I added a picture of the TD on to the Picasa Web Album, so people will see what I will be towing.

God I'm jealous I had a 47 and a 48 in high school bought 1 for $45.00 off of a car lot no less and the 47 parts car for $100.00 Young and dumb they both got away. My 48 was Sherman (Sherman the tank) We cruised many a mile.

No, I think it was just plain, like the rear one:



The rear bumper is missing those ugly upright pieces, but I don't want those in it anyway.

I need a few other non-mechanical parts, too, but those will wait till the snow melts. The Plymouth is sitting in a foot of snow right now. Neat thing is, when the sun comes out, the snow lides right off the car...
