my broken toy

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

my broken toy

Postby Andy Ehle » Thu Mar 01, 2007 6:52 pm

I bought this a little over a year ago (not running).

I spent the last four months rebuilding it. I spent about a grand fixing it up replacing parts, rebuilding motor, new tank, elec. system, elec. start, tires, alot of bolts(the roll bar was held on by 2 bolts  now ther are 12)

My dad took it for a drive around his back yard and on his second lap was waving his fist in yhe air and shouting waahoo :) (I think he wants one)

I had finally gotten the tuning alot closer to what it should be so I decided to take it to work and show it off. Well I let a guy I work with take it for a spin around the parking lot and he tried to drive under a trailer(but forgot the 5' roll bar behind him

I still can't believe he did it.

Now I am waiting for him to get me the replacement frame so I can move everything to the new frame :)

I didn't reste the date on the camera in case anybody was curious.

The new frame will be beefed up considerably.( my dad who hasn't welded since his a&p mechanic days 30+ years ago just had to have a welder, a miller 180c. So once I run 220 for it he can practice :) )

I had thought that I was almost done sinking money into it so I could start on my trailer(got a gift cet. good for a torsion axle for christmas but can't settle on my design or wheels but am getting close ):) :D

OUCH!!!...there was an Odyssey, that made the rounds, around here...it had 440 snowmobile engine placed in it and everyone who owned it or tried to drive it ended up with broken bones...it took several broken bones before the local "hold my beer and watch this" crowd, learned their lesson...they named it the "Suicide Machine"....

Jim, I thought about that but its not bent in the same place on both sides.

anyway since it wasn't me I think I want a new frame.

Now I do have a friend who used to build dune buggies and my wrecked frame just might get rear suspension.(got nuthin to lose)

MJ

If I could find a 440 snowmobile engine I could be real tempted  of course the roll cage would be seriously beefed up

I had a one of the red one at one time. The one with a full roll cage so it would be safer. I rolled it over and broke three fingers when I grabbed the cage to brace myself while rolling. Two weeks later my brother rolled it over and his arm came out and he broke his fore arm. That thing went down the road soon after that. Later they started adding straps to tie your arms in. They are a lot of fun but be careful and check on those straps I am sure that someone makes them aftermarket.

marksmg

thank for the warnings.

The roll cage will be connected to create a full cage for better protection. I am also thinking of adding an angled deflector between the front and rear wheels so the ody doesn't hang up on a tree in tight turns.

This does have the straps and I as yet have not done anything to flip it but am VERY aware of the potential for injury.

Gerald

I wish I could roll it backwards right now.

Until I replace the frame(or section it and add channel steel) it doesn't even roll.

Wrist restraints to keep hands on wheel along with seat belts prevent broken bones. :)

I don't know if this will help but my boys think their mom and dad can fix anything. Just bring it over and like magic, I guess we can fix it. If I can fix my grandma's broken toe....... 8) Ahh to be 2.
