Newbie in KY

Hello.

I have been lurking and reading posts for several months now. My wife and I camp quite a bit (once or twice a month all year long) and I think a teardrop would be a great improvement over the tent and we could store all of our caving gear in it as well. I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do, but I haven't decided on a plan. I want to build a woody from the ground up. I am a welder by trade, so the frame is the easy part for me. I bought Steve Frederick's Build jounrnal a couple of months back and am pretty confident I can co the woodwork as well. I just need to decide on a plan. I kind of like the cub/modernaire, but have also thought about just designing one from scrach (that may be too much of an undertaking for my first build).

Sorry for the long rambling introduction, but I think I covered all the bases.

Welcome to the playground Matt. As you can tell we really do love da pics. Cave pictures would be a lovely change.

Designing what suits you is a great idea. Just take it one step at a time and it will work out, or not. Wood is like paint, if you don't like it change it.

Howdy Matt,
I live in Georgetown, KY--actually Scott Co. near Midway. I bought Steve Frederick's first TD called the Stripper a couple years back. Have it stored on a friend's farm having burned my home to the foundation last year so I haven't used it a lot. My rebuilt house is nearly finished except for a 12 X 20 storage shed that I will move the TD into soon.
I am an over-the-hill ww kayaker and have two yakkn friends in L-ville who have TD's. Likely, we would end up in the same campground sometime in the future but would be happy for you to see Steve's handiwork whenever.

I'm really surprised there is someone with a teardrop trailer that close. I'm on the west side of lexington so were probably less than ten mile away. Are you involved in the paddling club here in lexington. I used to kayak quite a bit until I hurt my shoulder (rotator cuff injury). I still own a boat and try to get out once every other summer and do something easy like natahala. I would love to see your trailer sometime.

It is a small world welcome from Indiana. I love Natahala I used to go for a 4 day weekend to the NOC every spring with a couple friends. Haven't been since my twins were born. There getting a little older now so we'll probably start going again, now I'll have the teardrop to take

Yup, I still hang around with a few of the BWA gang although I am way older than most. I camp and boat mostly with the older Viking crowd from Louisville. Not much paddlin last year with rebuilding the house. I started boating late in life and peaked with the BSF. Mostly hang out on the mighty Elkhorn with occasional trips to the Ocoee. Tablesaw still has my number. And I have never been thru the Ell on the BSF upright but no swims there--yet.
My office is in Frankfort (eye surgeon) and so is my trailer for now. If you are willing to drive to Frankfort I could show you anytime in the afternoon after 4:30 PM. If that's too far, I will have it home in Scott Co. hopefully by the second or third week in April when my shed for it is finished. You can email me at [email protected] or call 859-3210531. I'd be happy to show you how to get to the farm where it is sitting. It would give me a chance to visit my TD--I miss it so!
BTW I was born and raised on W. Third St in Lex.
