Drug Problem

Postby Miriam C. » Sat Mar 03, 2007 8:29 pm

This was sent to me and I share it with you. Enjoy
While I realize some parents do everything right and kids do as they please, the unknown Author is right about the rest of us!

The other day, someone at our local store mentioned that a meth lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the next county and he asked the rhetorical question, "Why didn't we have a drug problem when we were growing up?" I replied:

I had a drug problem when I was young: I was drug to church on Sunday morning.

I was drug to church for weddings and funerals.I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather. I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults.

I was drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.

I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a swear word.

I was drug out to pull weeds in Mom's garden and flower beds and thistles out of Dad's fields.

I was drug to the homes of family, friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to cut the grass, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood; and if Mom had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have 'drug me back to the woodshed'!

Those 'drugs' are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack,or heroin;and, if today's children had this kind of 'drug' problem, the world would be a better place!

I have to second that.

My kids have a few of thoughs drug problems.
I don't know how I've managed but I can sit in a sit down resturant for an hour and a half with 3 year old twins and be told by 2 or 3 strangers how well behaved they are. I'm so lucky. I really don't know what we've done.

Agree 100%! I hated pulling weeds!
It's scary when you start making the same noises as your coffee maker.

Kinda reminds me of the saying "We gonna go round and round". Referring to Mama having you by one arm as she chased you round and round with that switch.

It's a shame we don't have more old fashon drug problems today.

I agree with all. I'm not perfect and my kids aren't.
I never liked the belt or switch or flyswater or newspaper. Lots of respect for those as well my parents and elders.
I told my dad to shut up once and when I got up I said I'd never say that again and I was only 13.
But honestly, I think a lot of people are afraid of that dreaded phrase (child abuse)

Drug Problem

Postby gerry boucher » Sun Mar 04, 2007 6:32 pm

Hello,

Scott, I too can take my two boys anywhere and they will behave. I started out in church when they were old enough to understand.
I said see that man up on the cross? and they said yes,
Well that's going to be you if you misbehave so think about it.
All the little old ladies came up to me and complimented me on such well behaved boys.
