Aluminum Question Yet Again!!!!

Postby Kit76 » Wed Feb 28, 2007 3:08 pm

I Can Only Find .063 5' wide Aluminum Locally . I am building the generic Benroy. Will I be able to bend this to the roof radius.

Please Advise

Chris,
That's what I used on mine but mine was anodized.
It was a bear but it can be done.

Sonet-- I didn't realize yours was anodized. Did you have any problems with the finish crackling when you made the bends? I have heard this is a problem on anything more than a gentle curve. Did you get your aluminum from a supplier of anodized sheeting, or get mill aluminum and then have it anodized custom? I am already thinking about anodized for my "next" build!
Thanks- Greasy

My 0.63 bent fine. Just keep it plumb and you're golden. I used the vinyl strap method and worked great.

Yep I got it from SAF it was 20% higher, and no there wasn't any crazeing. I got anodized because the main use of the tear is to beach camp. I knew mill would be a nightmare to keep shiny in the salt air. I am very pleased with it.

SAF has a notice on their site that they are opening a new facility in Redding,CA for all you left coasters.
