For those of you who asked about the top speed pulling a tear, try this tow vehicle.

It's an interesting technological challenge to get a car to go that fast and not require to be rebuilt after you've done it. The amount of money that VW (who own Bugatti) threw at the car's development must have been really scary - it would have been easy to make a 100mpg production car for the same money....

The snippet I liked was that a huge amount of the work was in keeping the car cool and it has coolers, 10 in total, for just everything - even the diff gets its own cooler! And of course all the air going through those coolers creates a lot of drag. Of its 1000hp, something over 300hp is spent just pushing air through its cooling systems, not pushing the car along.

It's clever, but also very pointless.

This is a friend of mine. Believe it or not, it's powered by an old school PURE PONTIAC engine

Amazing Car

Postby Creamcracker » Tue Mar 06, 2007 10:33 am

And hardly pointless! the technological challenge alone provides the purpose. Throughout the history of the motorcar the "need for speed" (and its associated safety features) has been essential to the development of the modern motor car. I was watching the video aware I was tensed up and hardly breathing! What a rush! Amazing!!

I saw that car at the car show in order to go ever 120 you have to remove a peice of sheet metal under the car to improve aerodymanics. PLAN AHEAD!

Phillip,
I felt exactly the same way. I had my headphones on here at work and to have that thing blasting from one ear to the other, it felt like it was driving throw my head. You said it, what a rush!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugatti_Veyron
...a very interesting read...loved some of the trivia...according to the Wiki, it cost Bugatti/VW 5millUSD to build a car that sells for 1.6milUSD when R&D is taken into account...at top speed, it will use up a set of tires in 15 miles (specially built by Michelien for them) but as the Guy sez in the video...that is OK because it will burn a 100liter tank of fuel in 12 miles at top speed.......
