Hello all, newby from the heartland, Wichita, KS. I'm completely new to the teardrop phenomenon, actually had a buddy turn me onto them while tent camping in OK this weekend. Temps got down into the 20's and I could hear his cool little propane heater keeping him warm all night long in his tent while I froze in mine. Anyway, we got to talking and he said he's got plans on building a teardrop, which got the wheel spinning in my head. Anyway, to keep a long story short I look forward to your expert idea's and opinions as I tackle this cool little idea.

About me: I am 32, married with 2 awesome boys, 6yrs and 1yr at this time. I spent 8yrs in the Marine Corps from 94-02. I'm now a Registered Nurse at the VA hospital here in Wichita. My family and me are avid outdoorsy type, camping, canoing, backpacking whenever we can. I currently compete in Adventure Racing, Mt. Biking, Duathlons, Triathlons, Marathons....you name it I'll give it a try. I don't compete to be competitive, but more to test myself and my abilities, and to have fun. Anyway I have lot's of questions, and you'll probably get tired of me asking dumb questions, but I'm sure you guys will get me through it. Now then, on to the surfing and searching, got lot's to learn!

MuleMarine we do hope you enjoy our little playground. You will find all the information you need and then some right in these pages.

A good place to start is the Generic Benroy plans and Vintage plans ( in the menu) Then there is the Hall of Fame. If that doesn't keep you busy---you can always design your own.

BTW---Thank You for serving.Image

Hey Mule!

Welcome to the mental health ward...ooops, I mean our little group. There's lots of great folks around here who are willing to share their teardrop building experiences.

As an aside, Thank You for serving and protecting our country.

Again, welcome aboard.

Carried the M-60 for some time until we phased it out in place for the 240G which was a big improvement to the ever jamming Pig. But in restrospect, there was some sexiness to carrying the 60 vs the 240 that just can't be explained by the illiterate type like myself.

to Guy: Semper Fi!

A BIG THANK YOU to all who have and are serving....

AND AN EVEN BIGGER THANK YOU to all you who support us in our choices and endeavors to serve. :applause:

I'm really excited to get started on this thing, I can tell right away it will be an addiction I'll probably have to seek long term help for. If I can implement even half the ideas I have rolling in my head I'll never want to step foot in my house again.

Let me ask you guys something, I've told my wife, brother, and a few friends about my idea, all seemed to roll their eyes and ask "Why"? Of course I explain how ideal it is, and the build vs buy cost advantage, and how I can't afford to buy a vehicle larger than my Toyota Camry simply to pull a camper.....in which I'd have to buy, etc, etc...but they still seem to look at me with the same blank expression on their face. Did anyone else get some friction when they first started, and if so, let me ask.....Who's laughing now?

Don't let it bother you, that's a very common occurance. Most of them will come around as things come together. Then others will likely ask how you did that so they can start their own.

I get the :? look alot, but then again I did before I started the teardrop.

I had a birthday party last weekend for my five year old boy and we had about 25 people here and everyone was trying to figure out what goofy thing I was up to now, but I have 2 cousins that are going to start building one soon and I think they were razzing me the most.

I actually carry a picture of a teardrop in all the cars...sometimes people can't figure out what you are talking about until they see it and even then ...

Yep, there was a thread about that a while back, I'll have to look for it. Yeah, we all get those looks. Then when you are finished, they all say, "you built that?"

Well you cheered my day up. I finally took pictures up to show my brothers and family with it unfinished. My brothers praised my work and my sister in law asked "Why???? you don't go camping do you." Well not since I got tired of waking up tired and in pain. Her next comment was how was Mike building it.   Poor Mike gets the blame for everything.

Let them laugh ;)

Aside from the lack of sex for those 16 months, I was able to live with that "look." (I'm the poster boy here for wife resistance to the project.)

And the worst look you're gonna get is when you get home and there's yet another ebay purchase waiting for you there.

But I'll tell you--when you're done, it feels GREAT to stop buying stuff for it.
Here we go again!
