As someone who has worked with horses, I've always hated the concept of those dancing Lipizzaner stallions.

http://www.lipizzaner.com/

It's so totally against the way a horse is supposed to move as to almost be abuse. Kind of like dancing bears.

I've just never understood the fascination with it.

Agreed. I raised hunting dogs for many years. A animal is at it's best when allowed to do what it's instincts tell it what to do.

"Hey, Bubba, wut you wanna do today?"
"Oh, I duh know, Billy Ray Bob. I know--why don't we teach a horse to dance?"
"That sounds like a great idea! You go grab the beer and I'll go get the cattle prod and the tux and top hat!"
"And after that, we can go teach the chickens to swim!"
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Well, the way you're describing it, it DOES sound like a lot of fun!

HAH!!!

And you made the main point:

What the heck is with that tux and top hat?

I say we get a group of dancing horses, build a stage, and put a pole in the middle of the stage....... Then offer lap dances.

or............ this wasn't really what you guys meant when you were discussing dancing horses?????

I think it is that touch of elegance that is missing from "Disco Danching with Horses" or the current reality TV hit, "Dancing with the Celebrity Over The Hill Horse Stars."

Or maybe he just ran out of clean clothes . . .

Deep breath---sighhhhhh. Since when is Dressage training abusive? Tennessee Walkers are abused. If this horse wasn't enjoying or deriving some reward from dancing he couldn't do it that well. Fact is no creature is made for dancing it is something that comes with training and practice. :NC

I believe Miriam's point is that people aren't made for dancing either - it's a learned behavior that some just don't take to, but from which many others (such as myself) derive a great deal of pleasure. You can't watch that horse for a minute and think that she doesn't love what she's doing.

You could never get a mule to do that though...
