Material weights question

Postby toolferone » Sun Mar 18, 2007 6:25 pm

Hello, this is my first post after introducing myself. I have been reading nad searching for the last several days and have not found the answer to this question.

I want to try and figure out weights before I start building and I have not found any weights listed for wood or metal. I sell baltic birch plywood at work so I weighed it and came up with the numbers below.

1/8” .43lb per sq ft
¼” .84lb per sq ft
½” 1.76lb per sq ft
¾” 2.44lb per sq ft

Does anybody have the weights for the different steel used for the trailers, ie: angle, square, or rectangle in different thickness? If this is listed somewhere already please post the link for me. ( I did try to find it)

TIA

did a search on 'angle iron weight per ft'.. with this, you can figure out weight per cubic inch and extrapolate...

http://www.wasatchsteel.com/unequal_angle.htm

ply is usually 25# per 4x8x1/4"

Metal weights in Design Library then open Tongue Strength

Postby Esteban » Mon Mar 19, 2007 1:59 am

The weight of many shapes of steel are available up above in the Design Library, open it then click on Tongue Strength. It's good to print it out as a reference for frame building.

Tom, don't feel bad!(Instead, feel good)

The only people who don't make mistakes are the ones that don't do anything(i'm not the one who came up with this idea)

I really like everybody on this forum and it's rare in this commercialised world to meet anyone as friendly and helpful as this bunch.
