personal web pages

I've noticed that some of the builders are using GeoCities for their web pages to post their photos. What are other people using and are they happy with the results, and was it easy to acheive what you wanted? Thanks Doug

Geocities work much better if you pay them some of the money they want. Otherwise you don't get FTP. Plus you have to put up with a bunch of advertising.

I've found Yahoo Photos has a pretty good offering for free!

Arne and I tried freewebs.com, and it works, but you run out of bandwidth pretty quick!

Mike...

Of course there is BG's site if you just want to paste photos in the messages here...

I've been using Yahoo Photos. It sucks but it's free and I've been too lazy to switch to something else.

You might try www.pnavy.com . It's free and you can use the photo gallery software that they provide. Here's a random one:

Brian, I do appreciate the offer, but there's no WAY I'm going to use them when their front page contains "newspeak" crap like this:
Photo Navy leverages the open source gallery project to empower the hobbyist and professional photographer.

Where did they come up with this - the Dilbert Mission Statement Generator?

LEVERAGE is a freaking NOUN, people! :x

Um... yes. You found one of my hot buttons...

pnavy looks good but I did see this on their site. Maybe you should wait till next week to upload your pics.

PNAVY WILL BE RELAUNCHING IN A WEEK OR SO UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. PLEASE MAKE COPIES OF ALL YOUR IMAGES, SO THAT YOU CAN RELOAD THEM WHEN WE RELAUNCH. WE ARE PERFORMING EXTENSIVE SOFTWARE UPGRADES, SO WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO TRANSFER ALL OF YOUR PICTURES SUCCESSFULLY. AFTER THIS UPGRADE, WE WILL BE ABLE TO SCALE AND UPGRADE THE SOFTWARE IN THE FUTURE WITHOUT DISRUPTION. THANKS!
DUE TO OUR POPULARITY, PNAVY NEEDS A NEW SERVER, MORE HARD DRIVES, AND MORE BANDWIDTH. I APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE & DELAY! WE HAVE OUTGROWN SERVERS TWICE ALREADY. WE WILL GET A MONSTER SERVER IN THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE, IT WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!! THANKS!! RANGER :)

Fellas,
Like a say... Take a look at bg's website.
He is a member here and he set this thing up just for us!
Yaa, you gotta register, but that's just to keep the annomynous posters away, which he discovered were posting some filthy images on his old uploader website. It is free and yes...He does accept donnations.
Once you've registered, you can easily manage your own files.
You can even delete files and images too.

I have a Yahoo small business hosting package. I get 2gig data bandwidth. tons and tons of storage space, a nice site editor, I'm too lazy/busy to mess with html. The cost is less than $20/month. No adds either! I can upload pics and update my journal pages in no-time.
No, I'm not a member of Mr Yahoo's family!! :?

Dean, it sounds like Doug is after a photo album site that he can point people to and they can browse through his pictures. bg's uploader is just a place to upload pics so they can be seen on forums and such (unless he added a feature that I didn't see). Perhaps I'm just misunderstanding him.

Joseph, not to start an argument, but leverage can be used as a noun or verb. Life's too short to let little things like that get to you. They offer a good service for free, so maybe it's just me, but I'd sure take advantage of it.

I'm looking for a site that I can post my photos with some text, as I want to do both the tear and my boats. I get lots of questions that could be answered with some text along with the photo, of course someone needs to read the text, and a lot of people don't. I'm also a basic computer numb nuts, so it needs to be way user friendly. I'll look into using bg's. Doug
