I've had two VW's, a van and a beetle. I bought the van (camper) knowing it needed an engine rebuild. Both ran excellent. The problem with VW's is - they need maintanence every 2,000 miles change the oil and adjust the valves. If you can commit to that, they will last a very long time. My van however, was not the fastest vehicle on the highway. It would do 75 with about 2 miles head start and the wind behind it. I've seen tow hitches on VW vans and often wondered what they pulled.

Put a Subaru FJ22 engine in it.

2.2 ltr boxer, 4 cyl. 130 hp.
