Kdog... I've always used wood filler in the past, but through this forum I got turned on to expoxy, West Systems to be exact. You can mix the epoxy with filler called Microlite 410 to a peanut butter consistancy and have a rock hard filler.... I didn't know diddly about epoxy, but it wasn't as hard as I thought - so, that's also an option. I've also heard some use bondo.

The thing with bondo, it is cheap, it dries hard in 10 minutes or less and it sands easy.

KDOG, unlike Bondo, epoxy will take a full day to dry and it is easy to sand with the 410 filler, but if you wait 3-4 days it sands even better... so I guess you just have to pick your poison and what you're comfortable working with. I put epoxy over my entire TD for waterproofing, so it only made sense for me to stick w/ epoxy for filling as well... but that's all done, now it's time to "worry" about paint... I think I'm going w/ Epoxy Primekote Primer and Brightside, both by Interlux - their label says it should work w/ West Clear Epoxy... if I'm reading it right. :worship:

With apologies to everyone for my "explosion" over on another related thread, I think I've finally come back down to earth and have settled on a system.

CPES -- already applied
FILL with apoxy filler from Rot Doctor -- with a final very light fill with Bondo (mixture) Most filling is already done.

RAKA EPOXY -- one coat to cover CPES and the added filler/

PRIMER -- West Marine 404/414 Epoxy primer

TOP COAT -- Interlux Polyurethane WHITE --- White helps cover boo boos!! Actually using West Marine Brand paint -- it was cheaper but from the same company (interlux)

Hopefully the TD doesn't melt and run all over my patio.

Hey Geron... are you done w/ the prime and paint... let's see it. How'd you like the Primekote and Brightsides... I ordered all mine, hope to paint in two weeks after a GOOD cure of the epoxy and some sanding.

No, Just ordered the epoxy today from Larry. Picked up the Primekote today also. So Epoxy, Wait two weeks then paint. Just love watching paint (epoxy) dry.

I think you're a couple steps ahead of me. I'm still left with at least one more filler stage -- maybe two.

Ahhh, yep.. I have two coats on, 2-3 fillers, and the last 2 top coats on with TONS and TONS of sanding in-between... all I have left is the final sanding/cleaning and I should be good to go.. of course, once the 1st coat of primer goes on I'm sure I'll see a few more places I need to fill and smooth, but they should be minor.

Critter... I just had the same problem w/ my epoxy... I wet sanded them w/ 220 and they popped off very easily. Have you maybe tried using an epoxy foam roller, very thin coats, and roll sloooooooooooooooow so you don't create little air bubbles, then tip off w/ a really good brush..also, dry sand w/ 300 inbetween coats and wipe down... this is at least what I'm going to try. I really want to get some paint on because I'm starting to feel some effect of burn out...

Critter, you would for sure win... after I washed the TD I decided to let it set for a day and make sure it was GOOD AND DRY... that 2 part primer does not like moisture, so now I'm postponed till tomorrow before a roller hits the TD, but hopefully by Sunday night I'll have 2 coats of primer and paint each on there....

You need to post some pics of your progress...which paint are you using by the way.
