Grieving couple commits suicide after dog dies :? :?

HYDERABAD, India - Unable to come to terms with the death of their pet dog, an elderly couple in southern India committed suicide by hanging themselves, police said on Monday.

The bodies of 67-year-old retired soldier C.N. Madanraj and his wife, Tarabai, 63, were found on Sunday in their home in a suburb of Hyderabad.

Police said the childless couple had held a burial ceremony for their dog of 13 years, called "Puppy," and hosted a feast for friends before hanging themselves in their bedroom.

"The couple described the grief over their pet dog in the suicide note they left on March 29," said police inspector V. Anantaiah.

I've seen several examples of childless women/couples who CLEARLY had turned their pet into a surrogate child. They took their loss very very hard as a result. Not THAT hard though! :?

I know I am really attach to my dog. To me she is more than just a dog, she is a hearing dog. She will come and paw me when there is someone is knocking at the door, phone ringing, or the oven timer going off and hopefully this never happens but we do pratice this the fire alarm my dog will alert me to that also. Well my dog has cancer now, she only has a short time to live. So every day now I keep thinking when is it going to be the day I have too put her down. I love her so I do not want to see her suffer but I want to cherish her every moment that I can. It is hard for me to type this. So can understand that other people hurts when they loose their pets, but to take their own life that is sad.

DOG

Postby CPASPARKS » Tue Apr 03, 2007 2:14 pm

Apratt,
I have three shih tzus and I am attached to all of them. The oldest of my three is a special dog to me.
She always is glad to see me and is at my side when I am at home.
She is my shadow.
I am a CPA and have a very relaxed office atmospehre and I sometimes bring her to work with me. All my regular clients know her.
I know what you mean about not wanting to let her go and not wanting to let her suffer.
I know that you must love your dog.

Author, Sometimes our last gift to a loved pet has to be to end the suffering for them. It hurts us a lot more than it hurts them.

I can't imagine taking my own life but I have a good life. I guess if I was raised to believe in reincarnation I might hope to come back and find my pet. If you take culture into account things might look different.

LONDON -
Keith Richards has acknowledged consuming a raft of illegal substances in his time, but this may top them all. In comments published Tuesday, the 63-year-old Rolling Stones guitarist said he had snorted his father's ashes mixed with cocaine.

"The strangest thing I've tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father," Richards was quoted as saying by British music magazine NME.

"He was cremated and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn't have cared," he said. "... It went down pretty well, and I'm still alive."

Richards' father, Bert, died in 2002, at 84.

That's a radically different culture from ours in the US. Not saying it's normal there, just saying it's probably less odd there than here.

Just my opinion. Worth every penny you paid for it. ;)

Mary, Miriam and Cpasparks thanks for the kind words. My dog, Fiona is her name, I wish she could talk so I would know how she is feeling. She almost never barks, whine extremly rare and she is such a picky eater, so it makes it hard to really know how she is feeling. I do know she sleeps more and don't move about as much. Fiona is only 9 years old. When the time comes she will go to dog heaven.

Did you see the news a few nights ago where someone threw away a perfectly good chihuahua? He tried to chew his way out of his little carrying cage.

He's being referred to as the "Dumpster Dog":
