Walls Up

Finally got over some minor problems, got floor bolted on, walls built and now it's onward and upward. Trust me folks, "stick and frame" ain't the way to go - just stick with the 3/4" Baltic birch and it will cut your build time in half.

Also, last chance to consider lowering that bottom door lip. That's gonna kill your legs.

Yep, am adding many more spars - every 8" and doubling on the roof at the vent and at the galley hatch hinge. Actually, I used someone else's profile and lowered the door considerably. I calculated 4" for mattress thickness plus 1" and it's just about right at 5" from the floor. My door measure 30" wide by 33" high so I can easily stuff my fat little body inside without much hassle. Now if I drink too much, I just fall inside without hitting any vital parts. My wife told me that I have a drinking problem. I told her that I get drunk and fall down - no problem!!

Too each his own--REALLY--but then your lip should be 2 1/2" from the floor.

Half your mattress height, so you don't knock your knees into it getting out, and so you can sit in the opening without the lip ripping into the backs of your knees.

Believe me--sitting in the doorway doesn't seem to be that big a thrill to me EITHER, but I'm just mentioning it.

Ira is right, you want your mattress to be higher than the threshold so that you can get into and out of the trailer without scraping your legs up.

When you sit in the doorway to put your shoes on, your mattress will sink making you lower than the threshold, it's pretty uncomfortable.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate the comments. However, one thing that was left out of the equation - is why did I SPECIFICALLY build the door opening 5" up from the floor. I am also fabricating something new and different which will be unveiled at the ITG.
Not only do I learn from doing but I also learn from the mistakes and oversites of others as well not to mention a great deal of research. There are perhaps thousands of ways to build a TD, travel trailer, 5th wheel, etc. and the prosects become endless.
