2006 Lodge 5" Camp Oven...

Postby Dean in Eureka, CA » Wed Apr 04, 2007 2:07 pm

Lodge made a deal with Japan and brought back the 5"er in a limited edition, with a private label on the bottom of the oven... 1000 ovens total.
http://www.moriban.com/shop/index.html
I don't know if this item has sold out, because when I translate the page, it refreshes itself several times a second, non stop.
I do see that the oven sells for 7350 yen and the carrying case another 2000 yen, which works out to be about $79.00... not including shipping.
That's weird... The url doesn't work here, but it does on the IDOS site.

Rocky,
Were you able to get that website to work from here???
If, not go to the IDOS site and follow my link from there.
I'm not getting any translations to give me a phone number, I think their phone number and or contact info is only shown posted as an image...

Camp Chef also produces a 5" DO. No, it's not a Lodge, but it is a 5" DO. http://tinyurl.com/2dwohs On the site they call it a 3/4 quart, model DO-5. I've made breakfast for one in mine and it works well. The only thing I might try to improve is put a hole in the handle for a hanger wire.

:duh

Looks like another admin fixed it for me...

I shot 'em an inquiry to see if there are any left, but havn't heard back...

Rob,
The Camp Chef 5"er has much shorter legs than the Lodge, but I'll tell yaa... Camp Chef is comin' on like gangbusters, they've been listening to their customers, takin notes, doin' their homework and making changes to their line of products, not to mention new ones being added.

Got a response to my inquiry to Moriban...

Thank you for an inquiry.
I am sorry, but will sentence you to sale only for Japanese soil.
Please understand it.

Guess if someone really wants one, they'll have to have someone in Japan buy it and send it over.
I don't know anybody living in Japan...

My buddy taught English in Japan for a couple years. Maybe I'll see if he knows anyone there who can buy one for me.

My wife has family in Japan. But the cost of shipping might make it cost prohibitive.

They go for a few hunderd bucks here, I don't think shipping will be that high.

My son is stationed in Japan, but he is back in the states until the end of the month. If you are interested in geting one, and can't find anyone else over there, let me know, and I'll see what we can do. Any idea what it weighs?

I'd guess somewhere around five pounds...
My hunch is that this piece is going to be quite an historical piece among collectors...
Lodge has been hounded for several years to bring back the 5" oven.
They've stated several times that their new automated equipment couldn''t produce an oven that small.
JDOS's history log on their venture with Lodge clearly shows that the automated equipment was used.
Lodge is taking quite a bit of flak from the Americans right now over this...

That wouldn't be too bad for shipping. I'll have to have him check into getting one or two the next time I talk to him. Maybe he can get a friend that is over there to order it before he gets back.
